LazaroDate: November 2020JOB SUMMARYThe Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Supervisor is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)/Physician Assistant (PA) with demonstrated leadership skills and clinical excellence as an advanced practice provider within his/her Department or Division. The APP Supervisor plans, schedules, coordinates and supervises a team of APPs and collaborates cross-functionally on operational needs, clinical practice, quality, performance, and financial outcomes of the APPs within his/her Department/Division. Primary responsibilities include leading and managing staff, programs, and services; developing standards; role optimization and development; monitoring performance and evidence-based practice; and recruiting, hiring, orienting and developing staff. The Supervisor, reporting directly to the APP Manager, requires significant cross functional leadership in coordinating the activities of Department/Division APRNs and PAs within his/her area of responsibility. This includes collaboration with operations, clinical academic department physician and administrative leaders, and other cross functional unit leaders.This position is a secondary administrative appointment as APP Supervisor with 50% of the position devoted to administrative duties and 50% to maintaining clinical practice within his/her respective Division/Department consistent with the NP/CNM/PA job description.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESA. Administrative LeaderManages and leads Department/Division APPs in the provision of safe, timely, efficient, equitable, effective, and patient-centered clinical care and operations for inpatient and ambulatory services.Represents Dept/Division APPs and APP leadership in interdisciplinary meetings and committees in areas of responsibility.Maintains and fosters a practice culture that embraces change and innovation.B. Workforce Planning and UtilizationEvaluates and manages workforce planning needs and APP resources in a clinically and fiscally responsible way.Monitors, responds and manages to appropriate data and reporting including but not limited to: retention, APP wellbeing, workforce planning, financial performance, wRVU, ambulatory access and quality performanceCollaborates and partners with department/division physician and administrative leadership and other clinical leaders to optimize system APP workforce and enhance team-based care models in a fiscally responsible manner that aligns with high quality patient care and outcomes.Consistently generates new ideas and creatively evaluates utilization of APP workforce in opportune and innovative care delivery models.C. Clinical Practice LeaderParticipates in APP Office strategic plan development and execution of assigned goals.Monitors standards of performance excellence, quality and operational and financial outcomes of APPs within area of responsibility.Participates and assures that organizational, regulatory and professional standards of excellence are upheld for area of responsibility. Partners with key stakeholders in monitoring metrics related to APP-delivered care to achieve results consistent with UW Health strategy, service standards, safety and organizational sustainability. Manages and coordinates work responsibilities of the APPs with operational leaders and physician medical directors in the ambulatory and inpatient environment such as schedules, call, workload, and patient care ratios, Service Standards, etc as appropriate.Develops, evaluates and maintains clinical workflows and practice expectations while maximizing efficiency for areas of responsibility.Makes informed decisions and uses UW Health Way tools and methods to understand, lead, and continually improve the work within the Department / Division. Leads and manages ongoing improvement projects using UW Health Way tools and improvement methodologies.Advances APP practice at UW Health and helps define roles/practice standards of APP. Addresses barriers and provides opportunities to improve clinical practice, safety, quality, and professionalism within Department/Division.Works with leadership, physicians, clinic/unit managers, and staff to educate, promote, utilize, and optimize the APP, at the highest level of practice, in a team model of care.D.
