Tons of Turkeys Donates 1,500 Thanksgiving Turkeys for

Those in Need at Cityteam Philadelphia

1,500 Turkeys Arrive Just in Time for Families in Need

IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Chester, PA - - Wednesday, November, 14, 2012 - - This Thanksgiving Season, Cityteam Philadelphia, a non-profit organization serving low-income families and the homeless throughout the greater Delaware Valley was in need of turkeys to put with their food boxes and cook on Thanksgiving day. The organization, Tons of Turkeys, came to Cityteam’s rescue with a donate of 1,500 of turkeys to help local families. The delivery will happen this Friday, November 16th at 10 AM- 11AM where Tons of Turkeys will present the turkeys to Cityteam and some of the families that have pre-registered for help this Thanksgiving.

Richard (Rick) Warther, the founder of Tons of Turkeys, met with Cityteam regarding their critical need for turkeys this year and how so many families had registered for a food box. He heard first hand how these families struggle each day to feed their children and how they freely receive vital services from Cityteam. Rick saw that Tons of Turkeys could make a real difference this holiday by helping these families with 1,500 turkeys.

DATE & TIME: Friday, November 16th - 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

LOCATION: Cityteam Warehouse - 805A West 2nd Street, Chester, PA (West 2nd St. & Ulrich St)

The Warther family started Tons of Turkeys (501c3) back in 2009 around their own Thanksgiving dinner table when they heard that other families couldn’t afford the same dinner they had. Their heartfelt family motto began with this “we should get some turkeys” and that is exactly what they did by donating 100 turkeys that first year. That same motto holds true today, as the whole Warther family (Richard, wife Francie and daughters Katie and Natalie) have increased their ability to provide over 1,500 turkeys to help families have a traditional thanksgiving dinner that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it.

“Our family has been very blessed, and we’ve realized the best way to show how truly thankful we are is to share the spirit of Thanksgiving with other families who are in need. At Cityteam, we can see first hand what a difference Tons of Turkeys is making in these families lives. We are eager to partner with Cityteam Philadelphia this year and meet more of the families that we’re helping,” said Richard (Rick) Warther, founder of Tons of Turkeys.

Tons of Turkeys partners with Jaindl Farms who is a local turkey farmer here in Orefield, Pennsylvania. This has also become the tradition of Jaindl Farms to partner with the Warther family and deliver the turkeys right to Cityteam’s doorstep.

“We are so thankful to Tons of Turkey’s and Jaindl Farms for making it possible for 1,500 turkeys to arrive just in time for Thanksgiving. With the hardship of Hurricane Sandy and the poor economy, families are really struggling more this year than ever before. Every little bit helps and these turkeys will bring nourishment, and share love that someone cares about them in their time of need,” said Marcaira Koch, Cityteam Philadelphia.
