?Teacher: Mrs. WindbushEnglish III Honors Room: 220 Teacher email: windbuj@English III will challenge students to become better thinkers, presenters, writers and readers. English III will address the North Carolina Standards for High School Junior English. Moreover, students will engage in rigorous, relevant and practical work that will open their eyes to the work expected of them upon their entry into university studies or the real world of work and career readiness. Students will listen, think, collaborate with their peers and above all be respectful. ENG III will culminate in a state exam that will count towards 20% of the student’s final grade in the class. Student Attendance + Student ACTIVE Participation (DAILY) = Progress in ENG IIIAssignmentsStudents are responsible for submitting assignments in a timely manner. All assignments will be graded, and students will be provided with appropriate feedback. If the student does not submit their assignments when they are due, the student will receive a grade of zero in PowerSchool. If the student does not have their assignments submitted by the day grades are due for progress reports or report cards, they will receive a grade of zero for their missing assignments. I cannot change a grade for an assignment after report cards have been distributed. In terms of absences, students will be given a week after an absence to submit their missing assignments. Students can make up tests, quizzes and classwork after an absence throughout the quarter. It is the student’s responsibility to rectify their grades before report cards and interim grades deadlines. Moreover, students who plagiarize material for an assignment or cheat during exams, tests or quizzes will receive a grade of zero for that respective assignment. First 15 minutes of class:The first 15 minutes of class will include a graded warm-up. The warm-ups are modeled after questions in which students will encounter on the English NC Final Exam at the end of the semester.Materials needed for class NotebookPlannerAttendance:Students should make every effort to attend class daily. If you are absent during the course of the semester, please make sure to get the assignments missed while you were out before school or during lunch. Cell Phones/IPods/Gaming Devices Students will not answer phone calls, text, listen to music or utilize gaming devices in class. If students are caught with one of the prohibited devices, that device will be taken for the remainder of the class.Student Progress in English IIIParents should expect a printed progress reports from their student every 3 weeks. If you are not receiving a progress report for English from your child, please call the school or email me at windbuj@.
