Do you think them—that’s the church across town—or do you think us?The Episcopal Fund is, in every way, for us!Episcopal is derived from the New Testament Greek “episkopos,” which the book of Acts and several of the pastoral letters use to indicate someone who’s an overseer of a Christian church. This is the person who’s charged with the duty of seeing that the work being done by others is done properly—and that’s exactly what our bishops do as they shepherd the life and ministry of our congregations.Your bishop, and others around the globe, are hard at work for The United Methodist Church. Bishops prayerfully determine pastoral appointments. They counsel with pastors and encourage congregations. Our bishops not only lead in the connectional ministry of the church, but you will also find them on the forefront of world issues encouraging secular leaders to incorporate faith into their decision making.Promoting Christ’s Ministry In The World TodayThe bishops serving The United Methodist Church today are ensuring that the ministry of Jesus Christ is being carried out by the church.Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey is supporting the disaster relief efforts of the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Bishop Michael Coyner is leading an endowment and scholarship campaign for Africa University. Bishop Will Willimon is inspiring and equipping pastors to be biblical preachers. The Episcopal Fund is what supports our bishops as they support The United Methodist Church.Support Our OverseersYour support, through your congregation’s faithful giving, is what makes the shepherding ministry of our bishops possible. It’s how we’re about to serve together as Christ’s body in the world.Today the bishops of The United Methodist Church are providing spiritual leadership to more than 12.4?million persons in a broad range of settings on four continents, including North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. We’re Working TogetherThe relationship between bishops and members of The United Methodist Church is a reciprocal one—our bishops serve the church and your contribution to The Episcopal Fund makes their crucial ministry possible.Grace and peace is yours, Pastor BarbA huge Thank You to everyone who supported our 29th Annual Strawberry Fest held on Sunday, June 23. It was a great day of food, fun and fellowship with many in attendance that included several first time strawberry festers. We sold approximately 130 tickets. This was a success and it would not have happened without a great team of volunteers. Whether you setup, sold tickets, crafts or bake sale items, grilled, baked, served, or any of the many other tasks associated with this event, the credit for our success is due to your hard work and dedication. Bless all of you for a great job! We were truly blessed by God! Final proceeds raised are not yet available but will help support the following mission projects: Chicago Southern/Northern District Summer Camping Project, Beds Plus (Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ Oak Lawn), Chicagoland Prison Outreach and Palos UMC Food Pantry. Once again thank you all for your help and support with this great event. God Bless You All! Nanette Bowers, Mission Chairperson===FOOD PANTRY WILL BE OPEN JULY 2nd.NEWS FROM THE FOOD PANTRYUnfortunately Hunger has not gone away—The Pantry is serving about 1000 households a month. We continue to have the clients from Elim Christian Services helping on Tuesday morning. They are enjoying themselves and doing a great job. On June 11th the pantry had 16 volunteers from BMO Bank volunteering. They were amazed at what was involved in preparing the Pantry for service and enjoyed interacting and serving the clients. The Pantry continues to receive food and monetary donations from many sources. Thanks so much—I look forward to the day when we can close our doors because Hunger is no more—until then WE ARE HERE! Sue Greer, Food Pantry MangerTHE 2019 NORTHERN ILLINOIS ANNUAL CONFERENCE wrapped up June 4 at the?Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center after two and a half days of worship, business, voting (and more voting), celebrating anniversaries, fellowship, speakers, and Bible study. While the theme was "Back to the Future" reminiscing about our 180-year history, much of the conversation and legislation focused on moving forward and what's next for the United Methodist Church and our annual conference.2019 BISHOPS APPEALThank you to everyone who gave to this year's annual conference Bishop's Appeal for the NIC youth camps--$53,437 was collected. Thank you to all the churches for their generosity.BISHOP DYCK ANNOUNCES RETIREMENTAfter 41 years of active ministry, serving in three annual conferences as a pastor, district superintendent or bishop, and living near I-90 from Massachusetts?to Ohio to Minnesota and Illinois, Bishop Sally Dyck is looking forward to moving to sunny California. This is our mission: to make sure the children are welcomed. Thank you for your prayers. A PRAYER FOR SUFFERING CHILDREN God of All Children Everywhere, Our hearts are bruised when we see children suffering alone. Our hearts are torn when we are unable to help. Our hearts are broken when we have some complicity in the matter. For all the times we were too busy and shooed a curious child away, forgive us, oh God. For all the times we failed to get down on their level and look eye to eye with a child, forgive us, oh God. For all the times we did not share when we saw a hungry child somewhere in the world, forgive us, oh God. For all the times we thought about calling elected officials to demand change, but did not, forgive us, oh God. For all the times we thought that caring for the children of this world was someone else’s responsibility, forgive us, oh God. With Your grace, heal our hearts. With Your grace, unite us in action. With Your grace, repair our government. With Your grace, help us to find a way to welcome all children everywhere, That they may know that Jesus loves them, Not just because “the Bible tells them so,” But because they have known Your love in real and tangible ways, And they know that nothing, absolutely nothing, can separate them from Your love. Amen.PRAY FOR OUR FARMING COMMUNITIES. Bishop Dyck also encourages us to pray for our farmers: "We are mindful that this year's crops are greatly affected by the devastating rains and many farmers are anxious about what the harvest season will bring," said Bishop Dyck. "Let's continue to keep our farmers and their families in our prayers."? Office Hours: Tues-Thurs. 9-2 p.m. Happy Summer to All GOD BLESS AMERICA! HAVE A SAFE 4TH OF JULY! ................
