Sewn Face Mask Guidelines Adapted from Minnesota Department of Health Important: Please pre-shrink all fabricBuild a mask that tightly encloses the area around the nose and mouth from the bridge of the nose down to the chin and extending onto the cheek beyond the corners of the mouth. This helps ensure no gaps occur when talking or moving.Choose mask material that is tightly woven but breathable. Double-layer if possible. Ensure material tolerates moisture from breathing.Masks must be machine washable and able to handle high temperatures and bleach without shrinking or deforming.Suggested design elements includeOuter layer tea clothInner layer of a microfleece to wick away moistureUse an accordion fold to mimic a hospital mask as much as possibleUse a fat woven shoelace type material to bind the sides (such as quilt binding)For straps, use elastic straps, shoelaces, or strips of fabric to loop behind the ears.Mask ties can be made of fabric as elastic is in?short supply.
