GRAMMAR and VOCABULARY requirements for the EXAM of English (Světový jazyk (A, F, N) are in accordance with B2 CEFR classification.

The reference book is Making Progress by Leo Jones, Student´s Book (Workbook) Unit 1 – 10, but the tested material can slightly differ demanding previous basic general English knowledge.

Basic knowledge of English grammar terminology is necessary (word classes, tenses, etc.)!

Grammar Review:

– nouns (countable, uncountable, regular/irregular plural, etc.)

– articles (definite, indefinite, none)

– quantifiers (some, any, many, much, a lot of, enough, etc.)

– adjectives (comparative, superlative regular/irregular) + other ways of comparing: as…as, the same as, not enough…to, too…. to, etc.)

– pronouns: personal, possessive, relative (which, who, that, etc.), objective case pronoun (mine, hers, etc.), interrogative (who, when, which, etc.)

– verbs: (regular/irregular) auxiliary, phrasal modal (can, may, must x have to, shall, could, might, should, mustn’t , be able to, etc.)

gerund/infinitive and their use after specific verbs

tenses: present simple and continuous

past simple and continuous

present perfect simple and continuous

past perfect simple (reported speech)

future simple + other ways of expressing future (going to, present tenses, time clauses)

– adverbs (careful! adverbs x adjectives)

– prepositions: of place, motion/direction and time, etc.

– Wh-questions (what, who, when, where, which, whose, how, etc.)

– word order of statements and questions

– indirect questions (Can you tell me where you live? I wonder why you did it, etc.)

– reported speech (ex.: She says, ´ I´m a good person.´ = She said he was a good person. They told us they were leaving tomorrow/next day/the day after, etc.)

Vocabulary Review

• English grammar terminology (word classes, tenses, etc.)

• Adjectives describing personality (antonyms, synonyms, opposites, etc.)

• Vocabulary associated with shopping, items of clothes, etc., common conversation phrases

• Vocabulary associated with education, school system, learning, marking system

• Collocations with verbs and adjectives (make a mistake, make a suggestion, do your best, do somebody a favour, etc., heavy smoker, busy traffic, etc.)

• Vocabulary associated with family, family members and relations, phases of development of a relationship (love at first sight, go out with somebody, get engaged, separate from, etc.)

• Negative prefixes of adjectives (impatient, irregular, inefficient, unbelievable, etc.)

• Vocabulary associated with going on holiday, travelling and accommodation, means of transport

• Vocabulary associated with living in a flat/house, items of furniture, etc.

• Vocabulary associated with films, going to the cinema, evaluation

• Vocabulary associated with emotions and gestures, body language

• Vocabulary associated with food and eating, kitchen recipes, etc.
