Geographic Region:The cornerstone of the Novant Health system is its 15 hospitals and medical centers. These hospitals are mostly centralized in North Carolina with locations in the Charlotte, Brunswick, and Triad areas. However, in 2009 Novant acquired two hospitals in Northern Virginia—Prince William Medical Center and Haymarket Medical Center—to begin expansion outside of the state.0-571500In addition to its hospitals and medical centers, Novant also oversees several urgent care and express care facilities (see map above), and offers emergency care and imaging services in each of their medical ponents of the System:Most patients who go through the Novant Health system do so by entering one of the company’s 15 hospitals. These hospitals provide emergency care, but also contain centers that specialize in areas such as orthopedic surgery or pediatrics. Novant Health’s Centers of Excellence in some of their medical centers include Accredited Chest Pain Centers, nationally-certified stroke centers, cutting-edge oncology care, and specialized Joint Replacement Surgery Programs. Novant Health also offers both urgent care and express clinics. In these locations, patients may be seen by a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant, receive x-rays and lab work, and get treated for minor injuries and illnesses. Additionally, the Novant Health group includes 343 physician practices, which makes it easy for primary care physicians and specialists to communicate with one another.PT at Novant Health:Physical therapists employed by Novant Health work in a variety of different settings and practice areas. First of all, each of the medical centers utilizes a team of acute care PTs to care for hospitalized patients. Additionally, one medical center (Forsyth Medical Center) contains an inpatient rehabilitation wing, and therapists there work with patients who have been moved out of acute care but still necessitate and can tolerate up to 3 hours of therapy per day. Additionally, Novant Health also employs a great deal of outpatient therapists to work in outpatient clinics located in their medical centers or in stand-alone clinics in the community. Often times, patients who are being seen in these outpatient clinics have already been seen for physical therapy in the acute or inpatient setting, so therapists can easily communicate with one another to get more insight on a patient’s process and provide the highest standard of care. ................
