How Can You Find Upcoming Exams?

Find out about all of our upcoming civil service exams. You can subscribe to our mailing list and select "City Jobs and Civil Service Announcements” to receive announcements for upcoming exams. The exams schedule is available in Alpha Order and Application Period Order. Our exam schedule is posted every July, lists all our upcoming exams, and is updated every month. Civil service exams may be available only for a limited time and it may be a few years before a certain exam is offered again.

Note you will need to apply for and pay a fee, or obtain a fee waiver, and meet the minimum requirements to qualify to take the exams listed. You can also see the most recent updates in the monthly exam applications schedule or view the tables on this page. Note that some exams may be cancelled or postponed, so check the schedule regularly if you plan to apply for or take an exam.

The exam application period is typically open several months before the exam. The exact dates when you can apply to take an exam are listed on the exam schedule, which is updated every month, as well as the notice of examination that provides a job description, the job requirements, the application dates, application fees, the type of exam, exam date, and more essential information.

Paying the Exam Application Fee

Application fees can be paid online or at a CTAC by credit, debit, bank, or gift card (with a major credit card logo) or at a CTAC by money order. Cash is not accepted for fee payment.

The application fee will be based upon the minimum of the salary range of the title being sought:

If you are a Veteran of the United States Armed Forces or if you receive certain forms of public assistance, unemployment insurance benefit payments and other similar benefits you may have the application fee waived by submitting documentation of your fee waiver type on OASys. The fee waiver documentation must be submitted at a CTAC or mailed to DCAS Application Unit, 1 Centre Street, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10007 along with the application receipt generated by OASys. You will be notified through the email account associated with your OASys account when your Fee Waiver is accepted or denied. If you are applying for and taking a test at a CTAC, bring the fee waiver documentation with you to the test.
