For the month of May 2019

-----------------------

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Thank you to all families who continue to send in supplies to keep our classroom running!

• SNACK ITEMS

• Clorox wipes

Your child may need:

• PENCILS

• ERASERS

The children did an amazing job testing for ELA and I know they will do even better for Math! I was very proud of how they took on the challenge and I believe I saw many children become more confident as the test went on! We have tried to keep it stress free and they have all used the strategies that they had practiced throughout the year.

We appreciate all of the supplies and snacks that families have shared with us this year. Many of you have shared more than your share of times. However, some children have not brought a single item to share for snack, but have received a snack each day. Please take the time to share a bag of pretzels or something with the children or we will do away with class snack time.

This month will be a busy one. We are starting to work on many assignments independently, so you may see some of your child’s grades start to drop. Remind them to work their hardest and use their strategies.

The nights are becoming longer and many practices and games are beginning. I will try to keep homework to review materials so it should not take your child long to complete it. We will have 2 more weeks of Spelling and then be done with that for the year.

This month we will be working on the following materials:

Math

• Step Up to fourth grade activities including: larger digit multiplication and some basic long division.

• Probability

• Lots and lots of word problems!

Reading / ELA

• Stories from our Journeys programs

• An animal research project

• Charlotte’s Web

• Poetry

Science/Social Studies

• We will be hatching chicks in our classroom, they eggs went in the incubator on April 30.

• Plants and Animals lifecycles, ecosystems and habitats

End of the year assessments will all be completed by the first week in June! I know we will see growth in all of them.

Please check with your child to see how his or her school supplies are. Many children are without pencils and erasers these days.

Important dates:

1 & 2 – NYS Math test

3 – Student Assembly

24 & 27 – No School

Reader’s Club

By the end of this month I am hoping that each child will have 40 or more Reader’s Club books. PLEASE ASK YOUR CHILD HOW MANY BOOKS THEY HAVE, ENCOURAGE THEM TO READ, READ, READ!

If you have any questions or concerns at this point or would like to set up a conference please contact me. You can send questions and concerns by email to kbownin@. Thank you as always for your support in your child’s education. Check the attached calendar for important dates in May

Sincerely - Kelly Browning
