Why not make the magnificence of the Summer night skies accessible to you? Preview the magnificent stars of the Summer night skies in comparison to the relatively quiet skies of the Spring evening. As the Lion Leo leaves us, Scorpius and Sagittarius will be there for the summer observer.

This late spring sky offers you an opportunity to view the slow separation of Jupiter from Saturn. We’ll also preview the planet Venus in the morning sky and take a peek at the Summer Perseid Meteor Shower.

The spring of 2006 gives us very favorable opportunities to view both Saturn and Jupiter. Shortly after sunset, Saturn can be found in the southwest in front of the stars of Cancer while Jupiter can be found in the eastern looping in front of the stars Virgo and Libra. Yuanji Energy Music Therapeutic Dance

A special Yuanji Energy Music is designed for each of the five Yuanji therapeutic dances. This kind of music harmonizes and energizes one’s mind, heart, body and energy systems and uplifts one’s spirit. The graceful movement along with the peaceful music helps to strengthen the immune system. The movement balances the body’s organ systems (yin-yang.) The steps are easy and lively and are fun to do. They can also be adjusted according to the individual’s physical and/or health conditions. One can choose which dance or which sections of a particular dance to do at a time. Boating

The following courses are presented in cooperation with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 22-01. There is no senior citizen discount.

Boating Skills and Seamanship

This class is designated for those over the age of 18 who are either interested in brushing up on their existing skills, or who have not previously taken a boating course. The areas to be covered include: seamanship techniques, personal safety for crew and passengers, boat handling, rules of the road, the latest federal boating regulation and general legal requirements, weather, radio/telephone use, knot tying and other subjects. Most insurance companies recognize this course and will provide a 10% discount on boat insurance upon completion of the class.

New York State has enacted legislation that requires all operators of Personal Watercraft (PWC) to have completed a course such as our adult course by January 1, 2004, or else they will be in violation of the law. In addition, the law further states that all such persons who were born on or after January 1, 1978, must have completed the course by January 1, 2002. For those born after January 1, 1975, the course must be completed prior to January 1, 2003. For those born on or after January 1, 1972, the course must be completed on or before January 1, 2004. Thereafter, persons who have not completed the course will not be allowed to operate a PWC until they have successfully completed the course and have been issued a certificate.

NYS Young Boaters Course

This course is mandatory throughout the state for young persons, 18 years and under, who desire to operate any type of propelled boat in the waters of New York State. Upon completion of the course, students will be given a certificate of completion as well as a wallet-sized card, which must be in the young boater’s possession when operating a vessel.

Empire Safety Council’s Defensive

Driving Course

This 6-hour course is open to all drivers, including high school students, 16 and older. Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible for a discount on your collision and liability insurance premiums for 3 years. This is in addition to the discount received for completing a certified Driver Education program. Upon completion, a certificate will be mailed to you which can be presented to your insurance company.
