We will be outdoors for recess and making use of our majestic athletic fields and play courts on a daily basis. Students should dress in layers and wear appropriate shoes. Please be advised that our school uniform policy is being enforced. Failure to wear the required school uniform will result in disciplinary action. I will be using the Chancellors Code of Discipline as a guide in this process. If your child has outgrown their school uniform and you would like to donate it to be given to another Petrides student, please send your used uniforms to my office. I will have all clothing that is donated available to students who have also outgrown their uniforms. . We have designated Friday May 5th as a Dress Down Day. Enjoy Cinco de Mayo with no uniform requirements! Wear your patriotic colors: Red, White and Blue on Friday May 26th - Patriotic Day! here at Petrides. Spring also brings our Regents Prep Academy. We will be offering classes to eighth graders in preparation for their upcoming Regents exams in The Living Environment, US History and Government, and Common Core Algebra I. If you have any questions about end of year testing, feel free to contact me. Our National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony has been SCHEDULED for Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 1:00pm. Our NJHS are organizing a Box Top collection campaign. Please send in all Box Tops to support our school. We hope to see you at these upcoming events.The Annual Spring Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Students in grades 5 – 8 will be performing. Tickets for the concert are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Our end of year "nontraditional Parent Teacher Conferences" also known as The Petrides Street Fair is scheduled for Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Your teachers will be available for an end of year chat. There will be activities such as yoga and Petrides palette, dinner service and more. It is a lovely event and we hope to see you there. Our next College Access For All event for students in Grade 7 will be on Monday, May 22nd and Tuesday, May 23rd. We will be doing a workshop on financial planning for college and a visit to Seton Hall University. At 8:15am on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 we will be having a Sip and Share featuring our eighth grade teachers. We will be discussing the upcoming end of year testing schedule and activities. A review packet has been distributed and packets on each topic will follow.Science – The students will complete the curriculum this month. Human Anatomy and Physiology is our final topic with the major focus on the Immune System and Reproductive System. Review for the NY State Lab exam will also be our focus this month, specifically using the microscope, use of the metric system and calculating density.Social Studies – During the month of May the students will learn about the Modern era Presidents and life after 9/11.
