SENIORS:
For those of you applying to college, at this point you should have completed the following:
• Use Naviance for the most efficient method of managing your college applications!
• INFO YOU WILL NEED FOR COLLEGE APPS: school code 310435, class size is 131, GPA scale is 4.0, GPA is weighted, School Counselor phone is 973-429-8309, School Counselor FAX is 973-429-3531, our school does not provide rank.
• Request 2 teachers to write letters of recommendation on your behalf. Keep in mind that these letters are provided by the teacher as a courtesy. Complete your brag sheet, Parent brag sheet, & resume via Naviance.
• Add the colleges you are applying to Naviance or your School Counselor will not know you are applying!! Also, update your college app status via Naviance!!
• The College Essay. Be certain to have someone proofread and edit your essay. Check out or .
• If you are applying “Early Action” or “Early Decision” to any college, please be sure to read and understand the stipulations to the process. Remember that these applications have a much earlier deadline.
• Make sure to read the directions to every application thoroughly. Some schools have different requirements.
• Keep in Contact with your School Counselor during the college admissions process. Inform your counselor of your admissions status for your schools.
• SATs and ACTS: Colleges will not accept scores sent by high schools. Go to to send SAT scores and to send ACT scores.
• Athletes considering Division I or II sports must register at .

• College Visits: Continue to visit colleges and attend information sessions. Many colleges are coming to GRHS!! See the list in the Guidance Dept.
JUNIORS:
• The GRHS School Counseling Department is holding a Junior Parent Breakfast on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 8am in the GRHS Media Center. This session will focus on post-high school planning including the college admissions process, standardized testing, & bridge year options.
• You may visit colleges, attend information sessions, and meet with colleges reps at GRHS.
• Beginning Semester 2, we will be scheduling individual post high school planning and college advisement sessions. Details to follow.
• SATs and ACTs: This is the time of year to begin considering taking the SATs and/or ACTS. Visit or for test dates and deadlines. See your School Counselor for assistance. Consider taking the Subject Tests; visit the web-site for dates and deadlines.
• SAT/ACT Prep: explore course options at TestPrep
• FAIR TEST: Many schools no longer require ACTs or SATs. Visit for a state by state listing of “test optional” colleges.
• College Visits: We encourage you to visit colleges and to attend college information sessions here at GRHS. When planning a college visit, be sure to call ahead for tour times, registration, and other information. To attend information sessions, sign up in the School Counseling office.
• Naviance: Please see your School Counselor for Naviance Login information and start your college search, resume’, and post high-school planning.
• College Fairs: 2015 NJ/NY Spring College Fairs will be held April 22 & 23 in Secaucus and April 19 at the Jacob Javits Center. Visit for further information and times.
• High Achieving Students: If you are interested in being nominated for The NJ Governors School or for NJ Scholars, see Mrs. Petrosino in Guidance. These are both summer programs with extensive applications.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships and awards have applications available online. If there is no web-site indicated, paper applications are located in the School Counseling Office.
• The 7th Annual Create-A-Greeting Card: $10,000 scholarship contest. Submit a unique photo, piece of artwork, or computer graphic for the front of the greeting card. Best design wins $10,000 scholarship with the design made into an actual greeting card to be added to the sales line. DEADLINE: February 18, 2015. .
• AXA Achievement Scholarships: For those students who have accomplished something exceptional outside of the classroom. Visit axa- for information and to apply. Deadline: December 15, 2014 or as soon as there are 10,000 applicants!
• AXA Achievement Community Scholarships: For students who have distinguished themselves within their communities.

DEADLINE: February 1, 2015 or as soon as there are 10,000 applicants!!
• Visit for scholarship information and for a scholarship “match” program.
• Chef Marcus: Several scholarships available for those interested in pursuing a career in culinary arts. Visit for more info. DEADLINE: May 5, 2015.
• Gates Millennium Scholars Program: This is a scholarship that is eligible to students who are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American. You must also be A US citizen or national or permanent resident of the US. You must have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3 un-weighted on a 4.0. For further eligibility, criteria, and to apply please go to DEADLINE: January 14, 2015.
• Marist: Technology scholarships. Attend an info session regarding 17 technology based scholarships on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 7-9pm at Goldman Sachs, 200 West Street 12th floor, New York, NY 10282. Register by December 10h by emailing Cynthia.Siegrist@marist.edu.
• New Jersey JCI Senate Scholarship: $1000 grants available to graduating seniors. Visit for an application and for information. DEADLINE: January 9, 2015.
• NJ Vietnam Vets: Two $2500 scholarships available. Requires a visit to the memorial in Homdel, NJ. Visit for information and application. DEADLINE: April 17, 2015 by 5 pm.
• Questbridge: scholarship and college information for low income students. Visit for information and applications.
• RMHC US Scholarship Program: Various scholarships based on geographic location. Visit for more information. DEADLINE: January 20, 2015.
• WACE National Co-op Scholarship Program: For specific details visit . 160 total merit scholarships available. DEADLINE: February 14, 2015.

SUMMER PROGRAMS
