Today, we will begin with an animal with 8 tentacles. Can you guess what it is?An octopus!Teach the word “tentacle”A tentacle is similar to our legs, yet an octopus lives under the water and uses them to move around. Read Aloud: Inky the Octopus to make your own octopus using a small paper plate, cheerios, and constrction paper. Cut out 8 rectangles to act as the tentacles. Take out a handful of cheerios to place on the rectangles. Then, glue everything down and create your octopus, like this:MATH- Math concept of the week: Review Size. What are some things you may find in the ocean? TuesdayDate: August 4Yesterday we began to talk about animals with tentacles. Another animal that looks similar to an octopus is called a jellyfish. A jellyfish can have up to 15 tentacles. Today, we will learn more about a jellyfish and how they move around underwater and what they may eat. Read Aloud: I am Jellyfish are going to make our own jellyfish, using construction paper and streamers. Cut out a semi-circle and decorate it with crayons or markers. Then rip off pieces of a streamer or construction paper and glue it onto the semi-circle, like this:Make sure to label your craft and write the word “jellyfish.” MATH-. Math concept of the week: review sizes. Today, go outside and have a conversation. What can you find that is small? What can you find that is big? WednesdayDate: August 5 There are some animals that are very dangerous and people need to be careful around them. One such animal is a shark. There are many different types of sharks, all of which come in different shapes and sizes. Today, we will explore some more information about sharks and how they live, what they eat, and how they swim in the ocean. Read Aloud: Clark the Shark First, watch this video to learn more about sharks:, try to create one of the sharks you saw in the video, like this:MATH- Math concept of the week: size. Draw a picture of the beach and ocean with some different sized ocean animals. Try to explain the sizes of each item you drew. What is big? What is small?LITERACY- Letter of the week: W. Make on the plastic and see what sounds you can make and hear. Water: use some plastic, water-safe toys and experiment to see what will sink and what will float under the water. ThursdayDate: August 6 There are some animals that live on land and in the water, or have a similar looking ocean animal, like the turtle. There are sea turtles that live underwater and swim with fish and other ocean animals. What color is a turtle?What does a turtle look like? What are the parts of the body of the turtle?Read Aloud: Baby Turtle’s Tale First, watch this video to learn more about sea turtles:, try to make a sea turtle using tissue paper and a paper plate. Fish come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. What is your favorite type of ocean animal?Read Aloud: Rainbow Fish Today, we are going to make our own rainbow fish, after reading the popular book.
