Office 365 Home Subscription Renewals

Office 365 Home customers will soon be returning to your store to renew their subscriptions. You already know how to sell Office, so here are the things you need to know in order to help a customer renew their subscription.

What is the customer experience?

Office 365 customers can renew their subscription at any time, but as their renewal date approaches they will receive proactive reminders. Here's what they will see as their expiration date approaches:

30 days from Expiration

How do customers renew?

Customers can renew their Office 365 Home subscription at any time. When they come to see you in store, let them know the 4 simple steps to renew:

1. Purchase Office 365 Home. 2. Go to setup. 3. Enter the Product Key. 4. Sign in with their Microsoft account ? the one they used to activate their initial Office 365 Home

subscription.

Why should customers renew?

Customers will ask you why they should renew. Help them understand the value of renewing their subscription by discussing the following:

1. Renewing means they'll maintain access to all the Office applications and additional subscription benefits.1 2. Additional exclusive subscribers benefits have been released over their subscription term:

Office Mobile: Office 365 subscribers can access and edit Office documents on iPhone and Android phones.2 Shared subscription benefits: Offering greater value for the household, up to 4 household members receive

+20GB Microsoft online storage and Office installation rights.3 3. There's more new service, features and product upgrades to come. As new things become available, subscribers will

continue to receive them at no additional cost.1

How much will Office 365 Home cost me to renew annually? The Manufacturer's Suggested Price for the Office 365 Home subscription is USD $99.99/year, so that will be the cost for renewal as well. If the customer purchases Office at the same time as a new PC, Windows tablet or Mac, they may be eligible for a discount on Office. It is important to remember that Microsoft does not set actual selling price, you should always check current pricing with your store manager.

What happens if customers don't renew their Office 365 subscription? What's the experience on the primary PC? On the other devices? If a customer chooses not to renew, they will still have access to their Office documents on their PC/Mac or stored online and will be able to view and print the documents. Other Office functionality--such as creating new documents or editing existing ones--will be disabled until they reactivate the subscription. This will be the same experience across all the PCs and Macs associated with the subscription. All users associated with the subscription will also lose access to Office Mobile on their iPhones and Android phones. Note: Customers can use the free Office Web Apps to make basic edits to documents.

How can a customer renew Office 365 Home? Anytime before expiration A customer can purchase another 1 year subscription for Office 365 Home from a partner or direct from Microsoft at any time. The customer returns to setup and enters the Product Key to extend their subscription. Note: When prompted for the Microsoft account they must use the same one used for their initial subscription.

After expiration Upon expiry the customer will see a "Subscription Expired" notification in the Office applications, which includes a "Reactivate" button. Customers can renew their subscription by clicking the Reactivate button, which launches a window with three options: Buy, Enter Key, and Sign In (see sample image at right).

If they purchased a Product Key from your retail store... 1. The customer should click "Enter Key" and follow the onscreen prompts

to renew their subscription. Note: This is the same process as navigating directly to setup. 2. Once the subscription is renewed on the primary PC, the customer needs to go to the other PCs and Macs in their household, launch an Office application, click "Reactivate," choose "Sign in" and enter the subscriber's Microsoft account information. Note: All subscribers must complete this step on secondary devices if the subscription has expired.

If the customer selects Buy... Selecting the "Buy" option will link the customer to to purchase another 1 year subscription.

What happens to the documents customers have saved to Microsoft online storage when their subscription expires? Your customer will receive a notice from Microsoft that their Office 365 Home subscription has ended and their available Microsoft online storage has been reduced from 20GB back down to 7GB. Your customer can still login, access and download all their documents stored online, including existing content exceeding the 7GB of free storage. However, if they have exceeded the 7GB of free storage, they will not be able to add or edit documents until they reduce their usage below the 7GB threshold.

1. Applications vary by platform and device. Current Office application versions are Office 2013 for Windows and Office 2011 for Mac. Customers with an active subscription will be entitled to the newest versions when available.

2. Office Mobile is available for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (5th generation) or later running iOS 6.1 or later. Android phones running Android OS version 4.0 or later.
