|JOB SUMMARY |

|Under the direction of the Program Director, Coding, the Coding Education Specialist is responsible for providing training on ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, and HCPCS coding in |
|accordance with Official Coding guidelines. The Coding Education Specialist will assist in the development, maintenance and delivery of coding assessments and |
|onboarding programs for new and existing coding associates. The specialist will also assist in the development, maintenance and delivery of curriculums for existing |
|coders. The incumbent schedules training sessions and reports outcomes to the Coding management team and adapts training programs/sessions based on changes mandated by |
|regulatory updates. The specialist will assist with content development of clinical documentation improvement for physician education. This position is the |
|operational owner of the UW Health Coding Apprenticeship Program and is responsible for coordination and oversight of Medical Coding students fulfilling their school |
|internship/affiliation requirements at UW Health. The Coding Education Specialist will also assist with special projects as directed by the Coding Directors. |
|MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES |

|Assist with UW Health coding assessment content development, maintenance & delivery systems for potential new hires |
|Oversee and facilitate the UW Health Coding Apprenticeship Program, including interviewing/hiring applicants, supervision, curriculum and delivery |
|Develop, maintain and deliver UW Health onboarding programs and refresher programs for both newly hired and existing staff, to include training in: diagnostic and |
|procedural coding, the technical components of a medical coding role and continued professional development |
|Review and maintain the ICD 10 Question & Answer email, the UWMF/UWHC Shared Workspaces with coding white sheets, FAQ, Best Practices, and other relevant resources |
|Assist coordinators, supervisors, coders, compliance and others as needed with content development and/or review for physician education of ICD 10 CM requirements and |
|changes |
|Assist with development and revision of physician education content for clinical documentation requirements |
|Obtain and maintain AHIMA and AAPC CEUs for UW Health ICD-10-CM training content |
|Facilitate or participate in departmental quality improvement projects and identify and advise management on outcomes |
|Participate in the research and analysis of coding and education issues and review optimization goals and solutions |
|Develop and revise quality measures for UW Health coding education content that is created or maintained by coding education specialist in order to audit performance |

|JOB REQUIREMENTS |
|Education |Minimum |High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a formal Medical Coding program |
| |Preferred |Associate degree in a relevant subject such as business or healthcare |
|Work Experience |Minimum |2 years of progressive coding experience with acute care hospital and/or multi-specialty physician practice |
| | |coding. |
| |Preferred |4 years of progressive coding experience with acute care hospital and/or multi-specialty physician practice |
| | |coding and experience with coding quality improvement projects. Experience creating and delivering content to |
| | |a variety of learners for a large, complex academic medical center. |
|Licenses & Certifications |Minimum |Certification as Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), |
| | |Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient |
| | |Coder (CIC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist Physician-Based (CCS-P) |
| | |required. |
