Substitute LicenseOne Year or Five Year Substitute Teaching License (New or Renewal)Notify the South Central Ohio ESC that you will be selecting them to electronically sign your license application.Failure to complete the steps above will result in your application being declined.Official transcripts (no photocopies) are required with each application for?NEW?long-term or short-term substitute license.Submit all official transcripts to the South Central Ohio ESC, 522 Glenwood Ave, Rm 165, New Boston, OH 45662 and we will mail them to the Ohio Department of Education. Background ChecksCurrent background checks must be on file with the Department of Education for a license to be issued. If you have lived continuously in Ohio for the past 5 years, a FBI background check is required if the report on file with ODE is more than 5 years old. A BCII background check is required if you do not have one on file with ODE. If you have not lived continuously in Ohio for the past 5 years, both the BCII and FBI background checks are required if the reports on file with ODE are more than five years old. Background checks may be completed in Room 145 of our building. Please bring a valid driver’s license or ID card and a money order or exact cash for payment. Cost for the BCII (state background check) or FBI background check is $35.00. If you need both the cost will be $65.00. Please contact our office at 740-354-0221 if you have any questions. Short-TermA short-term substitute license may be issued to the holder of a baccalaureate degree. An individual holding a short-term substitute license may substitute in a given classroom for no more than five consecutive days.Long-TermA long-term substitute license may be issued to the holder of a baccalaureate degree who evidences appropriate coursework as follows:Early Childhood -?12 semester hours in professional early childhood?educationMiddle Childhood -?20?semester hours in EACH subject requested??????????????????????????????????????????Adolescence 7-12 -?20 semester hours in EACH subject requested Note: Integrated areas must evidence an appropriate distribution of coursework Example: Integrated science must include coursework in life science, earth science, physics, and chemistry.Intervention Specialist* -?12 semester hours in special education*This license may be issued only as a 1-year license, new or renewal. This license requires an additional 6 semester hours in a program leading to licensure in the content area for each renewal requested.Pupil Services Interpreter for the Hearing Impaired -?requires the superintendent signature to verify the applicant is deemed to have the necessary skills to serve in the capacity of educational interpreter.Career-Tech Workforce Development -applicants for initial license must submit a completed CTE-37 form.
