CONCORD ATHLETIC HALL OF FAMECLASS OF 2018Sheri Bontrager Drake:Sheri began swimming at age five at Elkhart’s YMCA. The following year, she followed in her brother’s footsteps and joined the Concord Clippers Swimming Club. Soon, swimming became the family sport with her older brother and sister swimming and her mom as a judge at the meets. At the time, it was simply a fun activity to be involved with – a great way to meet friends and spend time with family. It wasn’t until age 11 when Sheri had a special opportunity with her friends to meet Olympic champion Janet Evans that she became more motivated. In junior high and in addition to her daily afternoon practices, Sheri requested extra practices two to three mornings a week before school. Quickly, she discovered how a little hard work and dedication resulted in significant positive outcomes. By high school, swimming had not only become an activity she participated it, but part of her identity. She took great pride in the sport and worked hard throughout high school to excel throughout her four years. During her time at CHS, Sheri was a four year letter winner, held multiple individual and relay records, a four time All-Conference Team member and a nine time NLC Champion (one as a freshman, two as a sophomore, four as a junior, and two as a senior). She was also a seven time individual Sectional Champion and part of multiple Sectional Champion relays. During her CHS swimming career, the team was sectional and NLC Champions on two occasions. To top off her high school career, Sheri was a state medalist her senior year in the 100 Breaststroke (seventh place) and in the 200 medley relay (sixth place). Throughout her time at CHS, Sheri specialized in 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and was an active participant in relays. After graduating from CHS, Sheri enrolled at Colgate University in upstate New York. She swam at the Division I level and transitioned to long distance swimming, training for the 200 breaststroke and 400 Individual Medley. Due to physical injuries, Sheri retired from swimming after two and a half years at Colgate. She graduated in 2006 with a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion. After college, Sheri moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 2006 to work as a residential counselor for a non-profit organization for under privileged youth - Boys Hope Girls Hope. Next, she found her way into event planning for another Cleveland non-profit, Downtown Cleveland Alliance. Sheri’s roll at DCA evolved and grew in responsibility as she became the Manager of Business Relations on the Business Development Team. She managed downtown business retention efforts as well as developed million dollar fundraising campaigns to support projects to improve the business and residential environment in Downtown Cleveland. After DCA, Sheri transitioned to a career in real estate – a more flexible schedule for her and her growing family. She furthered her education by attending and graduating from Heritage Baptist Institute in 2010 with aCertificate in Christian Education. At church, Sheri met her husband, Rob, a life-long Clevelander andPolice Officer in Lakewood, Ohio. (Rob is also no stranger to the benefits of hard work and dedication ashe was an avid athlete, especially excelling in soccer throughout high school and college). Currently Sheri lives in Parma, a suburb of Cleveland, with her husband Rob and 2 (soon to be 3) sons. It’s already evident that Sheri’s love for swimming has greatly impacted her children. Beckham (age 2) lights up when he’s in the water and Hudson (age 4) has already planned the upcoming summer around his time at the local pool.Michelle Braden Guipe: Michelle graduated from Concord High School in 2002.
