To CMSD Families, Friends and Supporters:
Te Cleveland Metropolitan School District's Academic Calendar is mailed to every household and business in the District to keep stakeholders informed of CMSD's activities and progress. Te academic gains we continue to see would not be possible without the support of people who see education as the most vital component in the future of Cleveland's children and our regional workforce.
At the heart of Cleveland's renaissance is The Cleveland Plan ? a blueprint for education reform that has garnered state and national recognition and continues to bring families back to CMSD.
Under The Cleveland Plan:
Clevelanders said "Yes!" to ~e Cleveland Plan in 2012, launching a citywide commitment to reversing years of declining attendance, enrollment and academic achievement in Cleveland's public schools.
Citizens then said "Yes!" when passing Issues 107 and 108 to provide the resources needed to implement ~e Cleveland Plan and ensure every child in Cleveland has access to quality teaching in quality schools.
Your "Yes!" vote on Issue 4 made it possible for CMSD to continue building and renovating schools across the city, ensuring access to the safe, modern learning environments every child in Cleveland deserves.
"Te selection of Cleveland as a Say Yes to Education city is a testament to the vision and generosity of the people of Cleveland who took ownership of their city's future by investing in the success of its children."
? CMSD increased its graduation rate 22.4 percentage points, a 43% increase, from 52.2% in 2011 to 74.6% in 2018.
? The graduation rates of our African-American and Hispanic students outpaced those of their peers statewide.
? CMSD students are leaving high school better prepared for college and other postsecondary training than ever before.
? More of our youngest learners are attending preschool before kindergarten, with an expansion of high-quality preschool seats across the city.
Tese important milestones on our Cleveland Plan journey were instrumental in Cleveland being selected as a Say Yes to Education city this year -- ensuring every CMSD graduate who lives in the District and attends a CMSD school for their entire high school career has access to a tuition scholarship to a college or Pell-eligible trade industry certifcate program upon graduation, along with supports and services families need to remove barriers to student success.
Tis year's Academic Calendar celebrates our success in pictorials and testimonials from a growing number of families who are choosing CMSD for their child's education.
? Families have more choices than ever as their children choose from an expanding portfolio of quality school programs across the city.
SAY YES to Education provides:
? A tuition scholarship to every eligible CMSD graduate who lives in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and graduates from a CMSD high school.
? Comprehensive resources, including mentoring and family support services to remove barriers to student success.
Tank you for your continued faith in CMSD as your choice for a quality education, and for your support of Cleveland's public schools.
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year!
Sincerely,
Eric S. Gordon Chief Executive Officer

"Te CMSD school I chose was better than the private school we considered in Cleveland. Beyond great schools, we also have Metroparks, the Zoo, the Children's Museum and other things to further their education."
