As with any new year, there are new resolutions and new changes. I have resolved to make a better effort of getting to know more of you. I have also resolved to make time to organize my office once a month. What are your resolutions? You can help my resolution of getting to know you by attending one of the Advisor Reviews that are left. I will talk more on those later. I am happy to announce that the new 4-H Family Handbook is done and ready for pick up the Extension office. Club starter packets are also ready. When you attend one of the reviews, these materials are available and can save you an extra trip. There is also a new look to the county web site. Check it out at seneca.osu.edu, from the home page, there are direct links to the 4-H Facebook page and Twitter feeds. With the snow and cold weather upon us, any cancellations of events will be posted to these pages. Stay warm and stay safe. CFAES provides research and related educational programs to clientele on a nondiscriminatory basis. For more information: Family HandbookThe family handbook was designed to help families and advisors keep better track of 4-H related materials. It combines the state family guide with the county requirements for each project. In it you will find projects listed with judging and fair exhibit requirements. Also included is a calendar of events, listing of contact info for Jr. Fair and Sr. Fair offices and other helpful information. As with any new idea, there are bound to be some mistakes or oversights. We worked hard to make sure the information was accurate and correct. If you have questions or find a mistake, please let us know and we will do our best to fix it. Continue to read the newsletter for updates and other important events as they happen.Advisor Review NightsThere are 3 dates left to pick from for these reviews. Each advisor and volunteer is strongly encouraged to attend one of these. We will be covering the new policy from OSU that talks about background checks and mandatory reporting of child abuse/neglect. We will also be covering changes that will take place in Seneca County 4-H and Junior Fair for 2015. Handbooks and starter packs will be available.Dates are Jan 17th 9-11am Jan 24th 3-5pm Feb 12th 6:30-8:30pm Background ChecksIf you received a letter from the state 4-H Office and Jason this past fall you need to get your background check done ASAP. If you have not got this taken care of yet, forms are available at the Extension Office and background checks are being done at North Central Educational Service Center. The cost for the background check is $30.00, we are asking you pay $15.00 and 4-H council will pick up the remaining $15.00. Please stop at the Extension Office first to get the form before going to get it done. If you have questions about this please contact the Extension Office 419-447-9722. Erie Basin Volunteer RetreatSeneca County is proud to host this one day event that will be held at the Sentinel Career Center. There will be break-out sessions covering a variety of topics and updates from state leaders. Please do not confuse this with the Ohio 4-H Volunteer Conference in March. The Erie Basin is comprised of 10 counties and their Extension offices designed to share ideas and programming in the respective areas of OSU Extension. The training date is February 21st, registration starts at 9:00am, lunch will be served, and the last session ends at 3:00pm.This will be a good alternative to plan on if you cannot attend one of the review nights. This will also be valuable even if you have attended a review night. Look for more details to be posted on the web and Facebook. EnrollmentBetween now and March 20th is when we are recruiting and accepting 4-H members and volunteers. We have been receiving lots of phone calls from families looking to join a club.
