OHSAA ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION BOARD ROOM

Welcome President Wally Vickers welcomed everyone.

2.

Opening Prayer ? Bob Von Kaenel led us in prayer.

3.

Roll Call Bob Von Kaenel read roll call. Those absent were as follows: Dan Gorski,

Amy TaylorSheldon, Dave Krauss, Rich Venuto

Wayne Wiseman gave Election Results. District Directors elected:

Membership Report ? Wayne Wiseman. As of 10/12/07 we have 2,395 members for 2009.

Deadline to be a member is 12/31/08. Our goal is to have 4,200 members in 2009.

Executive Board Meeting with Jerry Snodgrass President Wally Vickers :

A) Fundamentals of Coaching Class ? Discussion about problems with the class and

establishing deadlines was discussed

B) FanFest ? The OHSAA said plans are that it will be held again this year.

C) Games Sanctioned ? Jerry Snodgrass said the OHSAA will sanction our events again this

year. They will include all events we endorse

D) OHSBCA Sponsroship ? We discussed our ideas with him, and wanted to be certain we

were similar to their ideas.

E) Rawlings Contract ? We noted that we are in the final year of this contract, and wanted to

begin plans to meet with Rawlings, and to let the OHSAA know we are very happy with

Rawlings.

F) Officials Ratings ? We explained that we are still waiting on information on the procedure

to share with our membership

Jerry Snodgarass, OHSAA Asst. Commissioner spoke with the group, and gave us

information about several of these issues we discussed.

District 6 ? Tim Birie (Galion) ? In favor of Girls Top 100 Like individual workouts before the season in favor of coaches vs. cancer

District 7 ? Denny Shoemaker (Northview) ? not much interest in Foundation Game because of loss of scrimmage want to know locations of coaching classes would like FT rules/release changed

District 8 ? Mike Kanney (Celina) ? coaching class concerns do not like the 2week dead period for all sports

District 11 ? Pete Liptrap (Pickerington North)? Do not like the 2week dead period being in June, and would prefer it in July

District 15 ? Pat Murphy (Lebanon) ? Do not like additional 2week dead period questions about football possibly adding a division want 22 game schedule

District 16 ? Joe Cambron (Milford) ? Not in favor of 2week preseason instruction period small schools cannot take advantage of this

Girls Advisory Report ? G.A.C. Board ? Not in favor of 2week dead period in summer

10. REVIEW OF SEPTEMBER MEETING ? Wally Vickers A. Coaches vs. Cancer ? In favor of this program need more information from their organization. President Vickers will meet with them in the next couple of weeks. B. Foundation Game ? The deadline has been extended to Oct. 31st. Pat Murphy explained that he had a template we could get online from him. C. Corporate Sponsorship ? President Vickers presented levels of sponsorship and explained his ideas. Further discussion will be held before finalizing this idea. D. Girls Top 100 Showcase ? Dave Butcher will run this event, and plans to use the same format as the Boys Top 100. This will beheld at Otterbein College the same day as the Boys Top 100. A budget and equipment for this event will be forthcoming. E. State Tournament Rooms ? Larry Wilson passed around a signup for the rooming list. Cost will be $153.00 per night with a 4night minimum stay required. F. Past Presidnets Breakfast ? It will be held Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:30am at Holiday Inn on Lane. All directors, advisors and spouses are invited and encouraged to attend.

18. Paul Walker Award ? Bob Von Kaenel The 2009 winner is Jim Osborne (Gallia Academy) 1st Murphy 2nd ? O'Toole. Passed 150.

19. OHSBCA Clinic Review ? Dave Froelich ? It was reported that the clinic was a huge success with our attendance being its largest ever. Complaints were heard about the sound system, and other improvements were offered. It was suggested that Tom Souder be appointed as an assistant to Dave Krauss.

20. Hall of Fame Museum Update ? Don Henderson/Doc Daugherty They reported that things are progressing, and they encouraged everyone to continue to push for more people to join as members. They said their banquet will be May 30, 2009 at the Columbus Convention Center. There is a possibility of the Quicken Loans Arena giving them a display area in their building.

21. Hooplines & Website Report ? LarryWilson/ Pat Carroll ?1) They reminded everyone to attend OHSAA Board of Control Meetings when they are scheduled. 2) Also explained how the membership forms are being returned. 3) Larry reminded everyone to give him updates for the Directory of Officers 4) It was suggested that in order to receive Century Awards you must be an OHSBCA Member for the previous 5 consecutive years to get the award. A motion was made to make this change. 1st ? Rettig 2nd ? Dunlevy. The motion passed 150, and will begin in 2010 basketball year. 5) All winners need to have information sent for the Hooplines for publication. District Directors are responsible for getting the information from their winners.

22. TOP 100 Showcase ? Pat Carroll ? Pat reported that the structure and process will remain the same. Each district should select 6 players for the Showcase.

26. Arnzen and 300 plus Century Winners ? Joe Balogh ? These will be handed out at the 2:00pm Saturday game during halftime. Joe will contact winners and the game announcer to get

better communication for the presentation. Girls coaching winners will be presented at the Girls State Tournament.

27. Business Items ? Wally Vickers A. OHSBCA membership deadline ? December 31, 2008. Wayne Wiseman will send directors an updated list prior to the deadline. Directors will send reminders to member schools. B. Board of Control Meetings ? Please be sure to attend when you are scheduled. We need representation at every meeting. C. Hooplines Deadlines ? Deadline is March 1, 2009 all awards as listed in Hooplines D. Dave Froelich ? President Vickers asked for a round of applause for outgoing president Dave Froelich.
