c Working in London

Hi, my name’s Liam. I’m 20 and I’m a Drama student in London. From Monday to Friday, I’ve got short, brown hair and I usually wear jeans and

T-shirts. But at the weekend, I’m a street entertainer. When I work, I don’t look like a normal person. I wear an old grey suit, I’ve got

black hair, and I also paint my face and body black and white.

I work in Covent Garden, in the centre of London. It’s a good place to perform. There are lots of people shopping and thousands of tourists.

People like watching street entertainers, so I can sometimes make a lot of money. But people don’t always put money in my hat. I’m not the

only entertainer in Covent Garden and there’s lots of competition between us.

How do I entertain people? It changes because I can do lots of different things. I can juggle, sing, play the guitar, do gymnastics and tell

funny stories. I can juggle really well, so I often do that. People stop and watch jugglers – then I tell a funny story and they stay and

watch. The funny stories are very important. People always like laughing. I also like singing and playing the guitar. But I can’t play the

guitar very well, so I only do one or two songs.

It’s a long day. I usually start work at 9 o’clock in the morning and I finish at about 7 p.m. I travel home on the underground. Some people

look at me because my clothes are unusual. I just say ‘Hello’ to them. Then they usually smile or laugh. I like making people happy.
