[Pages:2]March 2022 Hello Shark Nation Families and Community! We had a great month of February with events like the science fair, 2/22/22 celebration, the Avondale STEAM Fest, and zSpace. Parent, teacher, student conferences are coming up make sure to sign up to learn all the amazing things your student has accomplished.

Quentin STEM Academy attended the Avondale STEAM Fest to share with our community some of the cool and interesting things our students do here. At the fest participants were able to dissect an owl pellet. They found bones and used a chart to identify the small animal that they belonged to.

Our staff has been making sure our students are completing their AZELLA tests. The staff has done a wonderful job with this. We are also prepping for our interim tests and building up steam towards the big tests which are our state tests. The best way families can support us is by making sure students are getting rest, doing their best work and are in a good frame of mind. We will continue to prepare our students this month for the tests we have approaching in class.

Our zSpace devices are here and students were so excited to use them. Exploring in virtual reality has been so much fun and engaging for students at all grade levels! It's also taught many patience as they learn to navigate new technology.

Parent, teacher, student conferences are approaching quickly. Talk with your student about what subjects they feel confident in and which areas they believe they need additional support in. Use conferences as an opportunity to work with your students' teacher to set your student up for success!

Do you see your child rushing to get their homework done? It can be tempting for our students to turn in work that is less than their best. Naturally, they are motivated by the idea of being done with their homework or chores and having more free time. While we want our kids to finish their work in a timely manner, we may forget to have them reflect on the quality of the work. When students do their best work, they build essential skills, such as attention to detail, grit, dependability, and followthrough. These skills cannot be wished for; they are acquired through use.

If you/your child or a family member is experiencing COVID-like symptoms (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, sore throat, headache, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, muscle/body aches, and/or a new loss of taste or smell), do not attend work/ school, and consider either seeking healthcare or getting a COVID-19 PCR or antigen test, depending on the severity of symptoms. Testing locations can be found by calling 2-1-1.

Parents please talk with your children about making sure cell-phones are not out or being used on campus, unless the teacher has given expressed consent for a lesson. It keeps kids focused at school and away from distractions.

Students in 5th grade created Rube Goldberg machines as an opportunity to design and build structures to complete a task while learning about the six simple machine types--wheel and axel, lever, inclined plane, pulley, screw and the wedge.
