We looked at the story of Goldilocks last week, this week we will focus on Goldilocks as a character. Have a picture of Goldilocks on the IWB. We are going to think about what she looks like and what she is like as a person, based on what we know about the story. Annotate the picture. Pick two colours – what her personality is like and what she looks like. DM – Year One – Reading – discuss word meanings, linking new meanings to those already known. Have an outline of Goldilocks. In one colour, write some words that describe what type of person we think she is. She broke into the bears house, so what type of person do we guess she is? In another colour, what does she look like? Hair/eyes/clothes etc. JB – Reception – Speaking – 40-60months – Extends vocabulary. Use a large outline of Goldilocks to do the same as Year One. Adult to scribe. 3 groups of 5. Discuss other words that mean the same thing. Maths Carpet SessionM/O – days of the week and months Last week the children learnt about time. JB was absent, spend a little lime asking them what they remember from the previous week. DM - Year One – Maths - Sequence events in chronological order. (before, after, next, first, today, yesterday, tomorrow, morning, afternoon and evening.)Children to order the days of the week and months of the year in their books. JB – Reception – Speaking – 40-60months – Extends vocabulary. Use a large outline of Goldilocks to do the same as Year One. Adult to scribe. 3 groups of 5. Create some sequences using the apparatus. Talk about safety and not going above a given height. Cool down – breathing DM – Readers/interventions and number recognition TuesPhonics (8.55 – 9.10)Funky Fingers (9.10 -9.20)Literacy Carpet Session Today we are going to use the words we thought of yesterday, but we are also going to add to these words using a thesaurus. Model what a thesaurus does. Pick a word like ‘happy’ and read all the other words. Are there any surprises? New words? JB – Year One – Writing – Reading – discuss word meanings, linking new meanings to those already known. Read aloud their writing clearly enough for others to read. Use the thesaurus to find even more interesting words to describe Goldilocks. If they have written ‘mean’, find mean in the thesaurus and add some other, even better words for ‘mean’. Do one or two words together and then let the children try a word on their own. Word in pairs. At the end of the session, all year one children to read some of their new words to the class. DM – Reception – Number – ELG - They say the number that is one more than a given number. Put number tiles down in the hall to 24. (Higher for the more able children.) Children to run over to a number, turn it over and shout out what one more is. If they don’t know, they can use a number line to find the answer. For each correct answer they get a counter. How many can they do in a minute? Then the next child has their turn. Groups of 4 – ability groups. Maths Carpet Session M/O – counting in jumps of 5. Find the hands and put them in the correct order. Straight into activities. This week we are looking at adding. Recap what adding is. What resources can we use in the classroom to add? (Fingers, counters, Numicon, number lines etc.)We are also looking at number bonds, so todays fact is 1+9 = 10 and 9+1=10.JB - Year One – Maths – Represent and use number bonds to 10 (then 20). As a group, find as many ways to make 10. Use 10 coins. How can we split them into piles? So that we still have the answer of 10? Use a w/b to record the answers. DM – Reception – Number – ELG - They say the number that is one more than a given number.Continue from before play.If finished – take those children who struggled to find one more to 20 and play a slightly different game. Make a number line to 20 in front of them. Have another set of number cards in the middle of the table. Turn a card and find one more. Woodland Work Get wellies and waterproof trousers on and go to the woodland area. Starter activity – pegsMain activity:JF – bark rubbing – Reception BW – twig identification sheet with Y1 JB and DM supporting playFree choice:Mud kitchenSwingMud slideMalletsBug collectors/magnifying glasses and information sheetsRopes and tarpaulin Gloves for helping cut down Spades for diggingWedPhonics (8.55 – 9.10)Funky Fingers (9.10 -9.20)Literacy Carpet Session We now have a wide range of words to describe both what Goldilocks looks like and what we think her personality is like. They spell some irregular common words.Using the words from the week, the children need to draw a picture of Goldilocks and describe her. Higher to do a paragraph. Maths Carpet sessionM/O – farmer PeteUse the Numicon software to find number bonds to 10. Today’s fact: 8+2=10 2+8=10JB - Year One – Maths – Represent and use number bonds to 10 (then 20). Today we are going to use Numicon to find lots of ways to make number bonds to 10. Children to find as many as they can.At the end, start to think about how we can make sure we have all the bonds. Start logically and work through them all. DM – Reception – 40-60months – Writing – Uses clearly identifiable letters, representing some sounds correctly in order. Put a number in the top part. What other numbers could go in the other parts to make the total correct? Give each child a bag of Numicon, so they can find different ways to fill in the whole/part diagram. JB - Year One – Maths – Represent and use number bonds to 10 (then 20). Children to use the number bond work we have been doing this week, but show it using a whole and part diagram. To start the children will use the whole/part diagram to show number bonds to 10. Then, as a challenge they need to see if they can make the sides add up to 10. DM – Reception – Number – ELG - They say the number that is one more than a given number. Add single digit numbers. Have a pile of addition calculations. Children to take a calculation and try and work it out. Have a variety of ways to work out the answer. Which do they prefer?
