Having Technical Difficulties?

Power Settings Change ? IMPORTANT!

Once your computer is updated to Windows 10 (after 5/20), there will be a change to the power settings that impacts when your

E-mail "helpdesk@" Call: 4080 (239-4080)

computer goes to sleep. When you shut the laptop lid, it will not lock and will not go into

sleep mode for 20 minutes. This means that if you open the computer in the first 20

minutes, you will not have to enter a password. After 20 minutes, the computer will go to

sleep and lock. We suggest that if your laptop is not in your possession during that 20

minutes that you lock it. To quickly lock it, press the Windows Key + L. The reason for

this change was to address a docking/undocking issue that happened in Windows 7 and

has now been amplified in Windows 10.

LOGIN AT SCHOOL FIRST TIME ? REQUIRED!

The first time you login, you MUST be at school (BV campus). You can't from home.

LOG OFF and SHUT DOWN (see screenshot)

Log Off: Click Start (window) / Your Name in upper left / Sign out Shut Down: Click Start (window)/ Power and select shut down

WIN10 TOUR! 2 min video of changes:

Start (window) button (lower left) ? click that, it will open a "tile based" menu --- This is called the "tablet mode". Notice that you get to your "file explorer" from here now (your HDrive/files storage). Notice you can get to "all apps", this is similar to "all programs".

Tiles ? You can customize these. For now, I would not mess with those, but know that later, you can add other apps to these tiles or take tiles off, even resize them.

Taskbar ? This is the black bar at the bottom of your screen. This is the desktop mode. We set this to open in desktop mode so it was most similar to what you are used to. You can still search the computer, but you put your search in the box that says "I'm Cortana"... more on that to follow in this document.

How to FIND MY FILES:

Click Start (window) then click on the words "File Explorer". If you click the arrow to the right of those words, you will get more options as shown below.

You can "Pin it" to the Taskbar (or to Start/your TILES). Here are 3 ways to put this as a "shortcut". o How to Pin to Taskbar: Click More and select Pin to Taskbar o How to Pin to Start: Select Pin to Start o How to Create a Shortcut on your desktop: Drag the icon to the desktop.

How to OPEN SYNERGY:

Open a web browser, you will see the familiar Internet Explorer and Firefox tiles when you click the Start button: Type in bvsynergy.. I suggest that you use IE the first time you login? Firefox gave a credentials error until I logged in via IE. [heads up] o Create shortcut From Internet Explorer: Note that there is a Star to put in favorites. You can also drag the Synergy Icon at the beginning of the URL onto your desktop to create a desktop shortcut.

How to OPEN OUTLOOK:

From the Tiles, there is an icon. Set up will occur (next, next, next, allow). The first time you open it will take some time(minutes) to load your emails. You will get a warning about this.

How to OPEN WORD, EXCEL, etc.:

From Start, you will see that they are all tiles. Use the All Apps icon in the lower left if you do not see it.

How to SEARCH my COMPUTER:

Search looks different! Cortana will greet you ?You can make that go away or login with a "Personal Microsoft Account". Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, there was not a MS for business login. So if you do not have a personal MS account and are not interested... just click the "Not Interested" and then "I am Sure" button and that will go away. You can add later if you would like! You can still type your searches. Try typing in Outlook. You will see the Desktop App show up in the list, right click to Pin to the Taskbar if you would like (recall that it is already pinned to the Start as a tile).

How to PRINT:

1. Print to PrintShop: and download the driver (lower right side) ? it says "for Windows 8, Windows 7" (I know, it should say for Windows 10! (May need to click "clear message")

2. Ricoh: type \\printricoh into your search box and enter. Find Follow_You_BW / right-click / connect. You can add the Color as well if you use that printer. The bookkeeper's ricoh is the only color ricoh.

3. Desktop printers will be loaded. If not, type \\printserverbvw into the search box and enter, find your printer / right click / connect.

4. Set as default printer: Start/Settings/ Devices/ Under Printers & scanners section, click the printer you want set as your default and select that.

How to CONNECT TO A PROJECTOR :

On your keyboard, press Window + P buttons at the same time. Or, if you have touch screen swipe your screen from the right and select Project. Select your option. I will challenge you to try Extend with your projector on. It will keep your resolution on your projector and you can use your laptop monitor for Synergy or Outlook for example (hidden from kids) and move what you want to display over to the projector.

WINDOWS 10 ? How to set up your newly imaged laptop!

WARNING: Be on the lookout for issues with connecting with the projector. If you have a black screen when you dock, try turning your projector on. Often, it disconnects your laptops' display and throws it to the projector (devious machine). You can use Windows + P to put it on duplicate or extend to solve this issue. Try undocking and docking if that did not work.

If you see a "pulsing" light on your power button when you dock, the laptop has gone to sleep. Often, you can fix this by pressing the power button once and it should wake up. If not, try undocking. Last option is to restart.

PROJECTORED DISPLAYS: If your projected image does not fill the screen, do a helpdesk ticket to get that fixed. Once fixed, it will fix the issue of it not filling the screen. Lots of directions on the fix, so for the Tech DIY'ers: Change your resolution 1024 X 768. Right Click on Desktop/ Graphics Options/Panel Fit/Built-In Display/Scale Full Screen.

----------------COOL STUFF SECTION----------------

How to INSTALL DROPBOX as a Local Drive: Login to your dropbox account. Click the downward pointing arrow by your account name in the upper right / click Install. Follow instructions ? as of the time that I am writing this document, you click Free Download to begin. CAVEAT: if you select Sync Everything, be sure you have enough CDrive space first. It does use CDrive space. It should have about 50GB free unless you have installed a lot on your laptop!

Don't have Dropbox, but want it? Sign up here and then see me for assistance! Note the screen shots below, once signed up and installed as a network drive, you can access it 24/7 as long as you are Internet in either of those 2 ways. BEST!

How to SYNC OneDrive as a Local Drive: In the systems tray, click the upward pointing arrow to bring up the extra running apps and then right click on the grey OneDrive cloud and select settings. Under the Account tab, select Add a business account: Sign in with your work email and your computer password. Answer the questions to personalize what folders you want to sync. You may want them all ? but remember that you have less space on your computer than you do in OneDrive. About 50GB on your computer and 1000 GB in OneDrive. So it has to "fit". This is why it is nice to be able to select what folders we want to sync. Most of you will be able to sync everything. But if you start using the OneDrive space to store big folders (such as video or images), then you may want to "unsync"/unlink those folders. You can do this in settings again (either choose folders to unlink or unlink your entire OneDrive.

WINDOWS 10 ? How to set up your newly imaged laptop!

Change your default web browser:

Search "Default" and select "Default Programs" then click on the current web browser default and select the one that you want.

Skype for Business:

Everyone gets a Skype for Business account. Login with your teacher login. Check it out! Search "Skype" and open Skype for Business. Notice, you can search for people in our organization...and you are set up. No registering. PLC's across the district just got easier!

Add Apps from the Store:

Yes, this is a tablet and a desktop combined into one! Focus first on understanding how to run this as a desktop. But then feel free to explore the store. You have to get a personal Microsoft Account in order to add apps (like Twitter, for example). Find the Store by searching for "Store". Then search for your app. To install it, you will be prompted for your MS account. Unfortunately, you don't have the option to select "School or Work" account at this time. So register for your own. You can use your work email or personal email for this. With this sign up, you get your own personal OneDrive account as well.

--------------------BE AWARE/NOTABLE ITEMS------------------------

You can enter a PIN ? But WARNING:

I found that you can enter a PIN to unlock your laptop, which is really conveininet. HOWEVER, I can not find a way to get that out of there (if I change my mind). Must be a Win 10 "issue".... Our DO IT folks said they do not see a way either. So, if you use this, you must keep it. You can change the PIN, but you can't take it out, YET.

Photos:

You can sign in and sync your "personal OneDrive" at this point. Waiting to be able to sync your Work Account. Just FYI.

GradeCam in FireFox:

The "new" side of gradecam is not getting along well with Firefox with pop-up blockers on. What we have seen happen is the drop downs are not "dropping down". The fix is to allow pop-up blockers. You can add an exception if you know how to do that or just uncheck pop-up blockers for all sites. Click the "3 lines" in the upper right / Options / Content and uncheck Block pop-up windows.
