1. Do you, as a parent, believe that your child is self‐motivated enough to keep up with daily assignments? Please explain. Note: I will often require students to make revisions and to push themselves beyond what they may have previously considered adequate or even excellent work.

2. For the student: Please list the books you have read in the past year (attach additional pages if necessary).

3. Why would you like to take AP English Lang and Comp?

4. Please briefly describe the other work you have done in English as a high school student (i.e. online/co-op courses, curriculum, independent reading, etc.). What have your strengths and weaknesses been in these courses?

5. Please attach a 300-500 word short essay response to this question: Should parents allow their children to specialize in one extra-curricular/hobby to the exclusion of other pursuits? Defend your answer. (Note: you need not conduct any research, but make sure you use specific and concrete evidence.)

6. Please tell me a little about yourself (hobbies, interests, etc.). Please include any ways that I can help you to succeed.

STATEMENT OF INTENT FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS

I have read the course description in the PA Homeschoolers web site or newsletter, and understand what this course will require from me. I further pledge to participate fully in the course, keeping up with required assignments and deadlines. The work I submit will be solely my own composition. Plagiarism is grounds for dismissal from the course with a failing grade. I understand that I will be issued a certificate of completion, with final grade, after I have taken the AP exam at a public or private school site. The actual AP exam grade will be sent directly from the College Board. If I do not take the AP exam, I will use the term “Honors English” on my transcript to designate this course. Even though I am submitting this electronically, I understand that my “signature” is still binding.
