Henrico Adult Education EMT Course InformationCOURSE EXPECTATIONS:1. All material will be virtual through a LMS in the form of online modules including online videos, online power points, reading assignments, tests, and quizzes that have to be completed by a specific date. As with all online educational programs, the student must be self-motivated to complete all assignments on time. 2.Access to a high speed internet and a computer. High speed internet access and a computer is a must for this course. Generally, county libraries offer computers and high speed internet for use. Currently, because of COVID, this is not a viable option. Do not rely solely on cell phone date plans. Do not rely on a cell phone to access course materials as the software is too extensive for use on a cell phone. Henrico County Public Schools is not responsible for data overage charges. Assignments must be completed on time regardless of access to internet and/or a computer. 3. Complete the physical requirements of the class. You must be able to complete all skills, which can at times be physically demanding. This will include kneeling, crouching, bending, performing compressions, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting at least 150 lbs. For more detailed information about the physical requirements of this course, see the BLS Job Description attached to this application. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSThe Virginia Office of EMS (OEMS) requires that the student be at least sixteen years of age by start date of course which is October 6, 2020.Each student must provide to the Instructor by the first night of class by email, fax, or mail copies or originals results of the following documents:Proof of Age (driver’s license, learner’s permit with photo or birth certificate)(Passport counts for both age and citizenship)Proof of Citizenship (social security card, current VISA, passport or student resident green card) Full immunization records (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B and a PPD)TB Test must be within last year and still be current at end of classNegative urine drug screen results to enroll in EMT class and a second done to start ride alongsBe proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language in order to clearly communicate with a patient, family, or bystander to determine a chief complaint, nature of illness, mechanism of injury and/or assess signs and symptoms. Be clean and neat in appearance.If you are a foreign national, you must have secured a U.S. Government Student Visa. If you have not been issued a U.S. Social Security Administration number, you must submit copies of your U.S. Government Student Visa together with your enrollment form. Criminal History There are certain types of criminal records that will preclude you from applying for EMS certification. These are generally crimes which would preclude you from ever having EMS certification in Virginia. These are listed in detail below. Individuals convicted of certain crimes present an unreasonable risk to public health and safety. 12VAC5-31-910 (October 10, 2012) for more information. SCHEDULED COURSESThis course runs from October 6, 2020 to January 28, 2021. At this time, all of the course work is going to be completed in a virtual format with skills being completed in small groups. If a student decides to do their ride alongs with a different EMS agency the Instructor must be contacted by the Captain or Training Officer of the agency to get the insurance information that is covering the student and the scheduled dates of ride alongs.CPRGo to Pay the $28.50 and complete the online course in BLS. You will then bring your certificate to a skills day with you to complete the course. You may also email the certificate to Ms. Chandler at jfchandler@henrico.k12.va.usOnline CertificationsThe following certifications must be completed within 30 days of course start date. You must first go to and register for a student ID. Write it down or put it in your phone. A FEMA SID is required to register for and participate in any training provided by FEMA. All FEMA training providers’ registration systems and enrollment procedures require a valid FEMA SID.
