Job Summary

This position is responsible for administration of hiring activities and practices, workers compensation, safety, safety training and related duties at a designated Distribution Center (DC) location. Provide assistance and support to DC management and employees in personnel and risk management areas. Perform related work. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement and direct hiring practices using the online application system (i.e. post open positions, review applications, forward applications to hiring manager for review, conduct phone screens, schedule information meeting or information gathering, schedule interviews, assist with or participate in interviews, track, document and process online applicant status timely.)

• Ensure hiring activities support operational needs and comply with company policies and state/federal regulations.

• Process new employee hires. Complete new employee onboarding, orientation and training as directed by company policies and state/federal regulations.

• Administer and monitor employee training requirements and programs, to include lift truck certification, on-the-job training programs and all other safety and compliance certification training. Ensure training and certification programs meet WinCo and OSHA standards. Maintain all training documentation.

• Maintain programs necessary to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, or federal requirements governing labor practices, employee safety and regulatory oversight.

• Answer employee related questions (i.e., insurance, employee contract, general company policy, etc.)

• Monitor new hire progress reviews and improvement plans, maintain documentation of performance issues, and administer terminations of probationary employees as directed by warehouse manager and in compliance with company policies and state/federal regulations.

• Consult with the appropriate Human Resource personnel for guidance, assistance or transferal of human resource situations, such as hiring practices, employee relations, protected leave, discipline, etc.

• Oversee and assist with DC payroll and attendance recordkeeping. Follow up with manager as necessary.

• Partner with the DC Manager and Risk Management personnel to respond to OSHA and other state and federal compliance related matters, including complaints, inspections and violations.

• Process workers compensation claims and WinCo Food’s return to work light duty program. Complete all necessary documentation and follow up.

• Manage investigation and resolution of employee accident claims.

• Communicate and interact with injured employees and their health care providers to minimize time loss and ensure timely return to regular duty.

• Work closely with Third-Party Administrators of WinCo Foods’ workers compensation and general liability insurance to manage claims and control costs.

• Facilitate DC Safety Committee activities including monthly meetings, recognition programs, incentive programs, safety suggestions, and safety tours.

• Provide Information to employees regarding process to request Federal and State Leaves. Submit paperwork (FMLA/Protected Leave) to the appropriate Protected Leave Clerk.

• Assist DC operations manager with personnel, safety and risk management issues including training, coaching and documentation.

• Implement strategies for improving workplace safety.

• Assist supervisors related to compliance with applicable local, state and federal safety and wage and hour requirements including FMLA and OFLA compliance.

• Administer random chemical screen processes in coordination with the WinCo Food Drug and Alcohol Policy, DOT standards and relevant labor agreements.

• Maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

• Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• Applying working knowledge of workers compensation, safety and employment law to workplace situations.

• Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of employee bargaining agreements and union contracts.

• Demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail in order to effectively monitor progress and complete assignments.

• Demonstrating initiative, self-direction, and excellent time management skills.

• Prioritizing and performing a variety of simultaneous tasks (multi-tasking).

• Working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and developing strong rapport with others.

• Utilizing strong proficiency with numerical data and calculations.

• Communicating (hearing and speech) with individuals and performing interpersonal and customer relation skills in an alert and responsive manner.

• Fielding and prioritize different tasks, phone calls and projects.

• Applying knowledge of general office practices and procedures and excellent organizational skills.

• Demonstrating working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) software.

Additional Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old

Machines and Equipment Operated:

• Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc.)

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:

• College degree OR substantial experience (four or more years) with responsibility for personnel actions, workplace safety, risk management, and training.
