Melee ClubAdvisor:Mr. TracyDescription:OUR MISSION / PHILOSOPHY: To provide an environment that will encourage/teach the values of good sportsmanship and community. Our primary focus is on competitive Super Smash Bros. Melee Tournaments, however, anyone interested in learning about the game, spectating, or training is welcome to join. CRT / Melee setups equipped with 20XX 4.05 and 20XX TE are available, though bringing extra Gamecube controllers for personal use is recommended. Local, state, and national competitions in healthcare are also available for those interested.? Guest speakers in the healthcare industry, Ted talks, current events, and debates are an integral part of the club.? Meetings:Meetings are held bimonthly on Tuesdays at 2:40 pm in room C117.Interact ClubAdvisor:Mrs. BroudaDescription:Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club that provides students an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects. Interact clubs perform at least two projects a year, with one serving the community and the other furthering international understanding. Last year Interact assisted in efforts to rebuild Kids Castle, sent emergency medical supplies to refugees through ShelterBox USA, and supplied winter mittens to the students of the Shepherd School through annual Candy Gram and Spring Sweets Sales.? Working in a group setting will allow students to discuss topic ideas more in depth, receive help from experienced NHD students, work with history teachers, share research, and stay on track.National Honor SocietyAdvisor:Mrs. Karen Davis and Ms. Elizabeth Taylor Description: NHS is the leader among organization and societies that promote appropriate recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership and service. South’s new creative writing club that will immerse its members into the joys of writing as well as the appreciation of others’ creative works. Our goal is to enable students to refine their writing skills in an environment where risk taking is not only welcomed but encouraged.Meetings:Every other Tuesday at 2:30 pm in room C203People for PetsAdvisor: Ms. WoehrDescription: People for Pets is an ASPCA affiliated?organization in which students work together on a variety of fundraisers to support animals in need.Meetings: One Friday per month, after school in room B210Reading OlympicsAdvisor:Mr. PecicDescription:The CB South Reading Olympics encourages students to read more than they currently do, to read a greater variety of books, and to enjoy the excitement of reading and talking about books (we also eat a lot of pizza, butter cake, and other goodies). The team format encourages students to share the challenge of reading the selection of books with their friends. The Reading Olympics competition is the culmination of the program that has teams of students reading books from a prepared list for several months prior to the final event. Each team consists of 8 to 14 students who agree to read from groups of 45 books appropriate for their age and reading level. Meetings:Day and time TBA, LibraryRestaurant RemixAdvisor:Mrs. HowardDescription:Restaurant Remix is a great club that makes student-selected favorites from all kinds of restaurants. There is a $20.00 fee to cover food costs for the year. Robotics ClubAdvisor:Mr. KesilmanDescription:The CB South Robotics Club is Team number 6191 with the FIRST program (For Inspiration and Recognitionof Science and Technology).? The Team is a member of the international FTC First Tech Challenge Competition. ? Founded in 2012, the CB South team made it?to States and placed third their first year.? The team will meet in September and get their mission.? Meetings follow with design, rough builds, testing of design and practice for competitions.? This club gives students of any level the opportunity to ski or snowboard as a group. Ski trips will take place Friday nights beginning on the first Friday in January. Students cost include bus transportation to and from the mountain, hoagie and chip dinner, water, soft pretzel and a sweatshirt/long sleeve T shirt. Join us and join the fun. The club holds weekly meetings throughout the school year, providing students with a forum to debate topics using parliamentary procedure. The club enables many to develop leadership skills. WAC members participate in the district’s Model Congress (which will be hosted this year by CB South) and Model United Nations. A select team will represent CB South at Academic World Quest sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. Members also have the chance to attend, through scholarships from the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia’s educational program, seminars and speeches given by regional, national, and world leaders.
