Dear Upper School Families,We are excited to offer a collection of ebooks and audiobooks for students to borrow throughout the summer and school year. Below, please find instructions for accessing this collection and downloading items onto your devices. Because each device is slightly different, please feel free to email Gwen Kaplan throughout the summer with specific questions (gkaplan@). First, head to the Saint David’s Library website: on the link to the Saint David’s Ebook Collection. You will be asked to sign in with your Username (student’s first initial and last name, ex: gkaplan) and Graduation Year.Next, you will be able to browse or search for ebooks and audiobooks, or view a list of each grade’s summer reading choice books under the “Collections” tab:Click on a title to find out more about it and/or to borrow it:Select the best format for your device. You can read the book on your computer in a browser window, or (based on the title), choose between Kindle format or Adobe epub (works with most other e-readers and apps). After selecting your format, click “confirm and download.” For Amazon Format:Amazon will open in a new tab, showing you the book (sign in to the account linked to your Kindle, if necessary). Click on the yellow “Get library book” on the right side of the screen. If your kindle is connected to Wifi, the book will automatically be downloaded to your device. If not, you can download the device to your computer and transfer it later (by clicking the “Download Now” button), or wait until your device connects to Wifi later on. To Download an Adobe EPUB book:Select Adobe EPUB. A dialogue window will open, asking you whether to open it (if you have an e-reader program on your computer) or save it (to transfer it to a device).Adobe PDF:Some titles also offer Adobe PDF, which may or may not work on your device. See your device’s specifications, or give it a try to find out! Audiobooks:When you borrow an audiobook, you can download the file in two ways:Add the free Overdrive App to your device (for example, by searching for it in Google Play on an Android device or the App Store on an Apple device). When installing, follow the app’s instructions for connecting to the Saint David’s School Library and signing in. You can access titles you have already borrowed or search for new ones to borrow from within the app. From a web browser, you can download the audio file to your computer and then transfer it to your device (for example, with a USB cable). Reading Online:You can start reading your book right away, in your Internet browser window. To do so, click “Read (in your browser).” A new tab will open up with the Overdrive Cloud Reader. To navigate the book, you can use the table of contents, bookmarks & highlights, and search box. To turn pages, click on the right side of the page (to go forward), or the left side (to turn back). Your Library Account: TipsBooks will automatically expire when their checkout period has ended. No need to worry about returning something late!To return a Kindle-format book early, you need to sign into your Amazon account and return it from there. You can adjust your borrowing period under “Settings” – choose between 7, 14, and 21 days (14 is the default). If you are looking for a book and don’t see it, but would like to borrow it for use with your e-reader, email your suggestion to Mrs. Kaplan! (gkaplan@). Not all titles are available for the library to use with this lending program, but a very large number are, and we want our collection to be as interesting to you as possible! ................
