Navigate to:

Click on the “Download Oracle Database 12c“ button.

If asked to login, login with your Oracle user name and password if you have an Oracle account. If you do not have an Oracle account, get a free account by registering.

Click on the “Accept user agreement” radio button to accept the Oracle user agreement.

Choose “Microsoft Windows (x64) (2.5G)” operating system option. (i.e. your computer should be running a 64 bit version of Windows and have at least 2.5GB of main memory)

Click on “Download 1” and save the “winx64_12c_database_1of2.zip” file to a folder of your choice. (I created a folder named “Oracle12c” in the “Downloads” folder.)

Click on “Download 2” and save the “winx64_12c_database_2of2.zip” file to the same folder you used above.

Create a folder names “InstallFiles” in the folder you downloaded the .zip files to.

Extract the two .zip files to the “InstallFiles” folder. When you extract the second .zip file, say yes to merging the files into the “database” folder that was created when the first .zip file was extracted.

Locate the “setup.exe” file in the “database” folder ( in the “InstallFiles” folder) and double click on it.

Say yes to the “User Account Control” dialog box.

Enter an email address. Uncheck the “I wish to receive security...” option. Click “Next”.

Select the “Skip software updates” radio button. Click “Next”.

Select the “Create and configure database” radio button. Click “Next”.

Select the “Desktop class” radio button. Click “Next”.

Select the “Use Windows Builti-in Account” radio button. Click “Next”.

Choose “Personal Edition (3.53GB)” for the Database edition. Create a password and enter it in the “Administrative password” and “Confirm password” text boxes. (Record the password so you do not forget it.) Click “Next”.

Click “Save Response File” button. Browse to the “InstallFiles” folder you created earlier and click “Save”. Click “Next”.

Select the “Private Networks ...” option in the Firewall Security Alert dialog box and click the “Allow access” button.

Select the “Private Networks ...” option in the Firewall Security Alert dialog box and click the “Allow access” button.

Click “OK”.

When the Database Configuration Assistant appears, click the “Password Management” button.

When the “Password Management” window appears, locate the “SCOTT” user name, unlock the “SCOTT” account by clicking the check mark in the “Lock Account” column (the check mark should disappear), enter a password in the “New Password” column and enter the same password in the “Confirm Password” column. Record the password you entered! You will need it to run SQLPlus.

Click “Ok”.
