COPE/Mitsui USA ScholarshipA collaborative offering of The City University of New York COPE Program andThe Mitsui USA FoundationApplication for Tuition Scholarship – Academic Year 2017 Deadline: June 1, 2016 The City University of New York COPE program (cuny.edu/cope) has received a grant from the Mitsui USA foundation to support the COPE/Mitsui USA Scholarships for Academic Year (AY) 2017. AwardThe COPE/Mitsui USA Full Tuition Scholarship will support up to five awards.Three (3) scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing an Associate’s degree, each in the amount of $4,896.Two (2) scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, each in the amount of $6,457. Funds will be applied towards tuition and paid directly to the recipient’s CUNY college. Any excess funds will be issued to the recipient via check from the college bursar. All funds must be used to support educational expenses. Please note that the scholarship will be applied in equal amounts over two semesters of study, including Fall 2016 and either Spring 2017 or Summer 2017, contingent upon enrollment. Eligibility CriteriaApplicants must meet ALL the following criteria:Be a currently enrolled CUNY student who has not previously earned a baccalaureate degree;Be a current COPE student (i.e., receiving Family Assistance, Safety Net Assistance, or Food Stamps);Be a U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status (student visa status does not qualify); Have completed between 12 and 45 credits towards an Associate’s degree at a CUNY college; or Have completed between 12 and 95 credits towards a Baccalaureate degree at a CUNY college;Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0; Have passed the CUNY Assessment Test in Writing (CATW) and demonstrates strong ability to communicate clearly in written English.Is planning to attend a CUNY undergraduate college full time in AY 2017Students who meet all of the criteria listed above are strongly encouraged to apply for this scholarship. There are no restrictions regarding the recipient’s course of study; however, the following additional characteristics will be viewed favorably: Interest in international trade, business and/or investment demonstrated through course selection(s) and/or participation in special research projects, organizations or events; Enrollment in Japanese studies and/or Japanese or other language studies; and Evidence of community volunteer activities and leadership. The essay will weigh very heavily in the selection process.
