In our "office" adventures happen daily through the pages of a book, a hands-on science experiment, discovery and dramatic play. We will teach children tolerance, acceptance and accountability. We practice manners, respect and positive social behaviors in all that we do. We recently were awarded a 3 Star rating from Parent Aware.One of the most important elements in family child care is trust and respect between parents and the provider. As a family child care provider, we strive to promote a sense of community within our program and to build a closeness that you will not find in a child care center. Because your child's welfare is so important, our closeness and nurturing of your child can create a sense of intimacy between us that makes our relationship feel more like a friendship rather than that of business partners. While this is ideal, well-defined boundaries are necessary and outlined within this handbook. Together, we share a responsibility for the health, safety and well-being of your child. While your child is in our home, we will love, nurture and protect them. Please remember that we, as child care providers, own our business and offer services for a fee. We set our own guidelines, policies and decide which services to offer. You, as the parent, must decide if the services we offer meet your needs.-Christine & Jeffrey GROUP CARE SETTINGSMillington’s Child Care is a group child care and does not have sufficient staff or means to provide individualized child care services. Any requests for specialized care outside the normal array of services we provide must be conducive to group care and cannot challenge any policy within this handbook. MISSION STATEMENTThe goal at Millington’s Child Care is to allow children to develop their mind, body and natural sense of curiosity through play by providing educational activities, materials and equipment. A developmental learning approach, which is child-led and open ended is the foundation of our curriculum. . LICENSE DATAWe are currently licensed through Minnesota Department of Health and Human Services. We are licensed as Class D - Group Family Child Care. We are licensed to care for 9 children maximum, ages 6 weeks to age 10. My license number is 1078283-1-FCC. My licensor contact is Becky Sprenger at (507) 328-6421MANDATED REPORTINGAll licensed child care providers are mandated reporters. This means that any suspected abuse or neglect (physical, emotional, mental and/or sexual) MUST be reported within 24 hours to either/or Olmsted County Health & Human Services (Child Protection) or the Olmsted County Sheriff's Department. Pursuant to MN Statutes, section 626.556, subd.6, a mandated reporter who knows or has reason to believe a child is or has been neglected or physically or sexually abused and fails to report can be charged with a misdemeanor -2095490ENROLLMENTENROLLMENTADMISSIONBefore a child is considered enrolled and can attend child care the following items must be completed and returned. Either party can withdraw from our agreement, with written notice, within these first two weeks. No refunds will be given for any services provided within this time period. PRIORITYPriority for available space is first given to currently enrolled families. Having priority does not guarantee that space is available when needed. Business-wise, it is my goal to have as many of my spaces as possible filled with full time children however, every effort will be made to accommodate part-time and/or drop-in children. Unfortunately, since space is limited, having a reliable backup provider or alternate care arrangements is required for any family not enrolled full time. SUPPLIESMillington's Child Care supplies most of the required items and equipment that a child needs for child care. Parents are required to supply certain items dependent on the age and needs of their child. (see list below) ALL ITEMS MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME The provider will monitor supplies and request items on an as needed basis.Infants2 bottles & nipples 3 complete changes of clothingfrozen breast milk and/or formula (a minimum of one week's supply)Security item (pacifier, Only allowable item per State)1 Package of diapers (replaced when necessary)1 package of wet wipes (replaced when necessary) Cloth Diapers The use of cloth diapers is welcomed at Millington's Child Care. All cloth diapering supplies must be provided by the parent. Only pocket diapers can be used and a wet bag large enough for the day’s soiled diapers must be provided daily. It is recommended that the daycare be provided with back-up disposable diapers just in case we run out of cloth diapers. Because of health & safety licensing regulations, soiled cloth diapers cannot be rinsed or washed at daycare. The soiled diaper will be removed from child, rolled and immediately placed in the wet bag. Toddlers & PreschoolersA complete change of clothing (2 if toilet training)A sweater or sweatshirt 1 package of wet wipes (replaced when necessary)1 package of diapers or training pants (if non-toilet trained)1 box of tissues (refilled monthly)Good walking/running shoes (NO Crocs or open toes)Blanket and/or lovey for rest time only.Extra ClothingALL children are required to wear socks and a sturdy shoe for walking (no crocs, sandals etc) ALL children are required to have a complete change of clothing in their baskets. Including socks. Infants and toddlers should have at least 2 complete sets. Older children should always have a lightweight sweatshirt or sweater which can be left in their baskets. Snow suit/pants, winter boots, waterproof mittens, hats, and winter coats during November, December, January, and February to allow them to go outside if weather permits/HOLDING FEE We require a nonrefundable fee for every week of holding a spot. Once the child starts ? or 25% of the weekly hold fee will be credited toward tuition weekly.-215899-406399HOURS, SERVICES & FEESHOURS, SERVICES & FEESOPERATING HOURSCare hours will not begin before 6:30 AM nor after 5:20 PM without prior approval. Additional fees will apply. A late fee of $2 per minute will be charged due at pick up.Care will only be available for your family during your contracted times.PAYMENTSAll payments are to be paid in advance of care and are to be made payable upon agreed date. Late Fees of $15 dollars a day will apply to all payments. Care will not be given until all tuition and late fees are paid. Rates are calculated and dependent on each individual family's needs. Rates are weekly and not available on an hourly basis. Each family will have a separate rate/payment contract. Rates are based on spot not attendanceAll rate information will be reviewed yearly or as changes occur. Due DatesPayments will be due according to each family's contractual agreement and before are care is given. Payment options include, bi-weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly due dates.If a payment due date falls on a holiday or day the child care is closed, payment will be due the business day before the closure. Any changes to your due date require a minimum of 2-week notice. Acceptable Forms of PaymentGoogle Pay or Personal CheckState Subsidy ProgramMillington's Child Care accepts CCAP, college grants and other funding sources as payment for services. Parents are responsible for prepaying for services rendered and Millington’s Child Care will reimburse the amount paid by the paying agency. Proof of qualification and/or acceptance for these programs is required before care will be provided.If acceptance is pending, parent must pay all fees until first payment by qualifying agency is made, at which time the parent will be reimbursed for any services covered by participating program. PARENT FEESIn the event the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) does not cover the entire rate billed. Parents are responsible for any amounts the state does not cover. This is referred to as "parent fees"Most families using CCAP will be assessed a co-pay. This amount is due BEFORE the state will pay for any additional services provided.Both parent fees and co-payment is due PRIOR to the upcoming 2 week service period. Any fees not paid will have the appropriate late fee added and no services will be provided until balance is paid in full. I am required by law to report non-payment to the sponsoring agency.RECEIPTS An electronic receipt will be issued upon payment. A year-to-date receipt will be issued yearly for previous year. ADDITIONAL FEESOccasionally situations arise that require additional payments or fees to be added to a client's account. These fees are non-negotiable and cannot be waived, reduced or suspended. Registration FeeThere is a 1 time non-refundable $50.00 registration fee.Supply FeeOccasionally there will be a supply fee to offset costs of the higher dollar projects. Late PaymentsThere will be a late fee of $15 per calendar day attached to each late payment. If payment is not made at drop off on the child's next scheduled day of attendance, the child will not be accepted into care until all balances are paid IN FULL. After 5 days of non-payment a child's space will be forfeited and the contract terminated. NSF FeesThere will be an NSF fee of $50 on all returned checks and only cash will be accepted after the first NSF. You will also be responsible for any bank fees that are incurred. Late Pickup FeesIf a child is picked up later than the contracted time without advance notice and approval, a late fee of $2 for every minute or portion thereof, beyond the scheduled pickup time will be charged. This fee is due immediately upon pick-up or late fees apply. UNPAID TUITION FEESAfter 5 calendar days of non-paid tuition, the provider may immediately terminate the child care services agreement and fill the opening. The parent will be responsible for any payments due up until this point, including the required notice period, regardless of whether the child attended care during this time or not. The provider will attempt to collect any monies owed via any legal means available. This includes, conciliation court, collection agencies, attorneys and/or law enforcement. If any additional fees are incurred while attempting to collect or in collecting the debt, the parent will be responsible for those fees. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCEIf at any time, you experience financial difficulties that affect your ability to pay your childcare fees, please contact me as soon as possible. There are scholarship and assistance programs available through the state and/or county agencies that can aide families in paying for their child care costs. The needs of each individual family will be assessed, and enrollment will be determined based on the provider's ability to accommodate those needs. FULL TIME CAREThe rate for full time care is based on a maximum of 50 hours per week. Full time families using 5 days per week are limited to 50 hours maximum per week or a maximum of 10 hours a day. Additional time can be made available at $10 per hour or any portion thereof per child.Full time clients have a guaranteed space in the daycare based on their scheduled hours whether their child has attended the maximum number of hours or not. Back Up CAREIt is your responsibility to find back up care on days we are closed.1371600285750ALL RATES ARE BASED ON ENROLLMENT NOT ATTENDANCEALL RATES ARE BASED ON ENROLLMENT NOT ATTENDANCEDROP IN CAREMillington's Child Care offers drop in care when space is available. Drop in care is provided during regular hours of 6:30 AM and 5:20 PM. Payment for drop in care must be made at drop off in cash or services will not be provided. Families using drop in services are subject to all rules and policies and paperwork within this handbook. SCHEDULINGAny changes to your schedule should be submitted as soon as possible to ensure availability. We also schedule appointments outside our working hours so it is important that you abide by your written schedule. Fees apply to any time used outside your contracted hours, unless contact has been made prior, For example if you schedule pick up at 4:00 but do not arrive until 4:10, the appropriate late fee will apply. . ARRIVALS and DEPARTURESChildren are to arrive clean and dressed for the day. Infants and non-toilet trained children must arrive in a fresh diaper. All children must arrive fed unless arriving within 30 minutes before a scheduled meal or snack. Do NOT allow your child to enter or exit the child care home without an adult physically accompanying them. NO SHOWSFailure to notify provider of your child's absence will be marked as a “No Show". After 3 recorded absences marked as a "No Show" the child care services agreement is subject to review of the contract and/or immediate termination.Safety During TransitionsThe children's safety, care and supervision is the responsibility of the parent or guardian while parent is on the property. Parents are always required to supervise their child(ren). NO child will be allowed to enter or exit vehicles alone or unsupervised. ALL children will be accompanied to and from the child care home by an adult.Transition IssuesTransition times such as drop off and pick-up can be a difficult time for children. Please try to make these times as short as possible. Years of experience have taught us that children are resilient and usually transition quickly upon drop off if the parent is swift, firm and regular in their separation routines. Children often feed off of any anxiety or stress a parent exhibits, so it is important that you address the child's fears with a reassuring hug/kiss, state your plans to return at the end of the day and follow with a quick exit. If your child is experiencing any separation anxiety or issues, please rest assured that I will do everything necessary to welcome your child and make their transition from parent to child care a comfortable and pleasant one. If your child does not calm down and join the rest of the group within a reasonable amount of time, you will be notified and requested to pick-up if necessary. If there is anything you need to discuss with me, please set up a time to talk in which we can do so privately and uninterrupted. Behavior During TransitionsBehavior for some children during these times can result in needing to be disciplined. Should this occur, you will need to be the one in charge. As your child's parent, you need to be the ultimate authority. If it becomes necessary for me to step in and discipline your child, alternate drop off/pick up routines will be discussed. RELEASE OF A CHILDParents must provide a list of persons authorized to pick up a child in the event a parent cannot be reached or is unavailable. No child will be permitted to leave the premises with anyone under age 18. Parents must provide the following information for each person listed: NameAddressTelephone numberRelationship to the childCurrent photoChildren will not be allowed to leave with authorized people unless the parent has notified me directly. This is for safety reasons and there will be NO EXCEPTIONS. Under the Influence/ImpairmentLegally, no child can be withheld from their parent or guardian, however if ANY parent is suspected of being under the influence or impaired in anyway, alternate methods of pick up will be offered. If a parent is suspected of being impaired or under the influence and leaves the child care property with their child, the proper authorities WILL be called immediately. This includes using 911 services as the safety and well-being of your child is my first priority. Child CustodyThe child care provider cannot legally restrict a parent from accessing their child. If there are court orders dictating visitation and/or custody of the child, the parent MUST submit a current copy of the document to be kept on file. Without a copy of the court order, BOTH biological parents (regardless of past, current or future marital status) have the right to remove the child from the home without issue. Car Seats If we are aware of a child being transported to or from child care without the use of the proper required child restraint seat, the authorities will immediately be notified as again, the safety and wellbeing of your child is our priority. Attendance Child care is charged on a flat weekly rate and is based on enrollment NOT on attendance or time used.SiblingsSiblings do not receive discounted care, therefore do not receive discounted rates. The child care is limited to a specific number of spaces and each space is billed on an individual basis regardless of children's relationships to one another. CHILD CARE CLOSURESThere will be occasions in which the child care will be closed. These days may or may not have fees attached depending on the nature of the closure. Parent Vacation DaysParents will pay half rate for two (2) family vacation weeks and full rate for any other family vacation.Provider Sick DaysProvider is entitled to 3 paid sick days a year. In the event that the provider becomes ill and is unable to provide care, parents will be notified as soon as possible. Provider VacationsThe provider will take three week-long vacations per year. A MINIMUM of 2-week notice will be given for vacation dates. Provider will be paid half rate for vacations.Provider Paid Personal Days1 Friday every month always the second FridayChild Care will be closed on the following Federally recognized holidays:Martin Luther King DayPresidents DayMemorial DayIndependence Day (4th of July)Labor DayVeteran’s DayThanksgivingFriday After ThanksgivingThe WEEK between Christmas and New Year Bereavement Policy Should we have immediate family member pass away we will take 3 paid days of bereavementEmergency ClosuresThere is always the possibility of emergency closures due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. If extreme weather dictates early closures for safety reasons, parents will be notified immediately, and all children will be required to be pick-up within 60 minutes of notice. If loss of heat (in winter months) and/or loss of air conditioning (in summer months) or electricity outages (any time of year) occur, the child care legally MUST close. Full tuition is due for ANY partial days of attendance.Other ClosuresIn the event that the child care is closed for any other non-scheduled closure, families will not be charged. Any paid tuition will be credited back to the next invoice. Back up Care It is your responsibility to find back up care on days I am closed.INFANTS & TODDLERSInfants and toddlers are provided with the necessary components of trust through interactions with a warm, respectful, responsive and encouraging caregiver. Infants are encouraged to develop a secure attachment to the caregiver. This is best achieved with consistent routine as well as responsive and respectful care on a daily basis. Infants & toddlers are provided experiences that support learning through their environment. These experiences allow children to absorb information about the world around them. Positive social skills are encouraged via role modeling and guidance. PRESCHOOLERSThe Redleaf curriculum and assessment booklets are being implemented and on occasion we will send “homework” home. Millington's Child Care will also allow the curriculum to be child-led.Our curriculum is emergent and inspired by the children's interests, skills and developmental stages. We strive to create an environment where children learn and discover by actively participating in real life, hands-on activities. Our topics or "themes" happen naturally through adult-child interactions and situations that allow for teachable moments. Everything is potential curriculum for young children. We do utilize ABC Mouse, Flashcards, and workbooks. We will soon be a Star Rated Provider through Parent Aware.REST TIME/QUIET TIMEAll children in attendance are required to participate in afternoon rest time. Rest time is usually from around 12:00 until 3:00. ALL children are required to rest quietly during this time period. Soft music may be played during this time. Children are each provided with a clean cot, fleece blanket and a pillow. These items are not shared and are laundered regularly. Children are permitted to bring a blanket, lovey or pacifier if needed for rest time. These items will remain in the child's basket at all other times. Rest time is non-negotiable so please do not request that your child not participate. PICK UP AND DROP OFF TIMEMillington's Child Care has an open-door policy that dictates that no parent can be denied access to their child, however drop-offs and/or pick-ups are discouraged during rest time as this is often disruptive to all the children. One drop off/pick up per day per child.Continued disregard for this policy may result in review of contracted schedule and/or possible termination. FIELD TRIPS & OUTINGSOccasionally, the children will be taken for walks around the neighborhood and to visit area parks and playgrounds. Children are supervised at all times and are taught a safety routine before leaving the property. ALL children of walking age are required to have safe, sturdy walking shoes with laces or Velcro that securely fasten. NO open toed shoes, Crocs, sandals or flip-flops. Millington's Child Care may schedule a field trip during the year that requires vehicle transportation. Parents will need to provide a child safety seat for use and will be assessed a portion of the rental vehicle fee. Parents may choose to exclude their child from these outings but will then be responsible for finding and funding alternate care during this time. PETSThe child care does not have pets living in the classroom, however we do have a dog at home and may transfer pet hair and dander to and from the daycare. If your child has allergies to pets, please make sure this is not going to affect their health and wellbeing. TV/MEDIA/ELECTRONICSWe strive to limit television and electronics in our curriculum. Occasionally, the TV, internet and tablet will be used to support a specific activity. If you do not wish for your child to have access to these items, please let me know. ITEMS FROM HOMEPlease do not allow your child to bring toys or items from home. We have spent an enormous amount of time purchasing developmentally appropriate and educational toys/activities for the children in our care. When items are brought from home, it can cause undue stress and anxiety for a child. Any item brought into the child care home becomes my responsibility, so please make sure ALL toys/items from home remain in your vehicle so they do not pose an issue here. Occasionally a child may be invited to bring something from home for sharing purposes. In these situations, items need to be clearly marked with child's name. These items should also be handed directly to the provider and will then be returned directly from provider to parent upon pick up. -3905240MEALS AND SNACKSMEALS AND SNACKSMillington's Child Care participates with Milestones Inc. This is a USDA approved food program that supports providers in assuring that the meals & snacks offered to your child while in care, meet/exceed nutritional guidelines .Meals and snacks are served to the children. Children will be expected to sit at the table and use proper table manners. Please support these behaviors at home. Meal time is an excellent opportunity to participate in relaxed conversation and practice developing social skills. NO food or drink will be allowed to be brought from home, nor will foods be sent home with a child.This excludes treats brought to share with others for birthdays & holidays as well as holiday treats made or served during celebrations. MEAL TIMES Meals are served as following:6:30-8:30 AM - Breakfast9:30-10 AM - Morning Snack11:30-Noon - Lunch3:30-4:00 PM - Afternoon SnackNo foods will be served outside of the above meal times. FP PARTICIPATIONParticipation in the food program is not required, however there will be an additional cost for meals & snacks should you choose not to participate. Parent supplied meals are not an option at Millington's Child Care. INFANT MEALSChildren under 12 months of age are fed on demand and are not required to follow designated mealtimes/patterns. Children 12 months of age and older will be served cow's milk and regular table foods. Formula, baby cereal/foods will no longer be served to children beginning on their first birthday unless a special diet statement is in effect. Any new foods must be fed to the child at home for one full week before being fed to the child at daycare. When notifying the provider of new foods, please do so in writing. Breastfed ChildrenBreastfeeding is encouraged and supported. Fresh milk must be brought daily but should cover MORE than the day's requirements. You may bring frozen milk to be stored at the child care. Breastfed babies MUST be comfortable using a bottle and demonstration of such skill may be required before child will be allowed to attend care. If at any time a child refuses the bottle and goes more than 3 hours without eating, the parent will be called for immediate pick up. For children over 12 months of age but still consuming breast milk, fresh or frozen breast milk is acceptable but will need to be supplied on a weekly basis and will be served via a cup. A breastfeeding mom is welcome to stop in and breastfeed if wanted but we would need to be contacted before you come to ensure we are home and interruptions are kept to a minimumALLERGIES & SPECIAL DIETSAny child with allergies must have a special diet statement on file at the child care. This form requires a doctor's signature as well as specific substitutions listed.Any foods that are prohibited due to religious or personal reasons must be listed in writing and on file at the child care.ALL children will be served the same foods. Alternate foods will not be served when children simply do not like what is on the menu that day. During meals, your child will not be forced to eat anything. They will be encouraged however, in a positive manner, to try new things and make healthy choices.WATERFresh drinking water is available at ALL times during the day. Other than milk for meals and snacks, water is the only beverage offered. -5714990HEALTH & SAFETYHEALTH & SAFETYMillington's Child Care is a well-child day care facility. This means that the occasional mild cough or cold is not grounds for exclusion, however if your child experiences any of the symptoms outlined in the illness policy, they will not be allowed to attend child care.We understand that it can be an inconvenience for a parent to take time off of work when a child cannot attend childcare however there are reasons for the exclusion. Any time that an ill child doesn’t feel well enough to participate comfortably in activities it can require more care than the childcare provider is able to provide without compromising the health & safety of the other children. An ill child can also quickly spread illness to the other children in the group. This is group care and the needs of the group take priorityEXCLUSIONSChildren are excluded from care for the following symptoms/reasons:Fever (100 F or higher) Strep/Sore throat or trouble swallowingNausea or vomiting (within last 24 hrs)Unexplained or contagious rashGreen/yellow nasal discharge for more than 5 daysChicken Pox InfluenzaPink EyeMumpsImpetigoLiceMeaslesWhooping CoughRingwormScarlet FeverHand Foot & MouthDiarrhea, loose stool, or abdominal cramps (within last 24 hrs)Child is not well enough to participate in normal daily activitiesAny unexplained pain or undiagnosed injuryExcessive teething symptoms (temp higher than 100 or inconsolable pain)Immunizations (within the last 48 hours) Children need to be symptom free for a FULL 24 hours without the use of OTC medications before re-admittance to care. When a child becomes ill while in attendance, the child will be made comfortable in a quiet place away from other children where he/she can rest while waiting to be picked up. Parents will be notified immediately and agree to begin making alternate work arrangements or arrangements for alternate pick up and care. If we cannot reach a parent, we will call an emergency contact listed on the child’s registration formPlease use your best discretion when deciding whether or not to send your child to care. We are very active during the day. If your child is unable to participate in normal daily activities or requires more care and attention than the provider is able to give, they should not attend. Do not mask a fever/illness with an OTC medication before dropping off. This puts ALL children in care at risk and doing so is grounds for immediate termination. If you suspect your child is ill, please keep them home. A day of rest can prevent spread of illness, longer absences and daycare closures. Rest also lends to a speedy recovery. CONTAGIOUS ILLNESSESYou will be notified if your child comes in contact with any contagious illnesses, such as strep-throat, pink-eye, head lice, HF&M, and/or chickenpox.An informational sheet will also be provided for care, treatment and precautions. Families are required to notify the child care if ANYONE in the household has a contagious illness. Depending on the nature of the ailment, the child (whether actually ill or not) may be excluded due to risk of exposure and spread to others. DOCTOR'S NOTESIn certain situations, a medical form must be obtained before your child can be re-admitted into care. These forms require a written diagnosis from the child's physician and must state the following information:the diagnosisthe treatment planlength of recommended exclusion periodBased on the physician's diagnosis, the provider will determine if/when your child will be allowed to return to care. Please do not assume the doctor can give permission for re-admittance.Re-admission to child care will be at the provider's discretion.PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONPrescription medications will still be administered when necessary. IMMUNIZATIONS:Children receiving immunizations or vaccines will be automatically excluded from child care for a minimum of 48 hours. Please arrange for your child to receive his/her immunizations on a Friday or a day when he/she is scheduled to be absent from care for the next two days. There are absolutely NO exceptions to this rule. Failure to follow this rule could result in immediate termination of services. BASIC SAFETY Your child's safety is a priority. Millington's Child Care has a number of policies that are in place for the sole protection of your child. Please educate yourself about these policies and adhere to them.SupervisionChildren will be supervised at ALL times. For children under 2 years of age, this means within sight AND sound of the provider. For children over 2 years of age, this means within sight OR sound. During drop-offs/pickups, NO child will be allowed to enter or exit the child care home or the family vehicle without adult supervision.Children love to demonstrate their independence and perseverance.Please encourage and of course, allow adequate time for your child to dress and undress themselves upon drop-off and arrival times.This allows the child to not only practice the emerging skill but to sense the feeling of accomplishment and success. NO child will be allowed to attend if they are confined to indoor activity only and/or exhibiting behaviors that pose a risk or threat to other children in care. SMOKINGThe child care and its premises are smoke free. Please do NOT dispose of cigarette waste anywhere on the property. EMERGENCY CONTACTSEach child must have on file a list of names and phone numbers of emergency contacts. The emergency contacts are persons in the area who are authorized by the parent to pick-up and drop-off the child in case of illness or emergencies when the parent cannot be reached. Please be sure the persons whose names are given are over the age of 18, aware that they have been listed for this purpose and that the daycare will ask for identification of any person with whom they are not familiar. If a parent will not be at the number which they have listed as a work contact, they must leave a note with the childcare provider with the number at which they can be reached. It is the parent's responsibility to update the child’s records within five (5) days of any changes. We require a photo of any alternate person who will be picking up. That person will also be required to show ID. Children will only be released to adult persons whose name is listed as an authorized pick up.INJURIESBumps and scratches are inevitable even though every effort is made to keep the children safe through supervision and childproofing. Please expect that children may experience a minor scrape or bruise during regular child play. Minor InjuriesIf a minor accident occurs, first aid will be applied. Cuts and scrapes will be washed with soap and water and a bandage applied. If the injury is not life-threatening, but requires further treatment, the parent will be contacted immediately.An incident report will be completed for all accidents that leave a mark or involve the head and a copy will be given to the parent upon arrival.Medical EmergenciesIf an emergency injury occurs, emergency personnel will be called first, and the parent called next. If necessary, a child may be transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital. If available, a substitute may be called to stay with the remaining children so that the child care provider can accompany the injured child until either the parent or emergency contact arrives. An incident report will be completed, and a copy will be given to the parent. The incident will be reported to the licensing office. The parent is responsible for any costs involved in medical treatment including any transportation required.UNIVERSAL HEALTH PRECAUTIONSStaff and children’s hands are washed before preparing, handling or eating food, after toileting or diapering, after contact with blood and any time that hands become dirty.Please refrain from bringing ill siblings and other family members into the child care home during drop-offs/pickups. We listen to each other and respect personal space. We speak respectfully to one another and ask politely for things. We pay attention to our surroundings and to the childcare provider. And finally, our feet are used for walking not for kicking or running indoors..We believe in positive guidance related to acceptable standards of behavior and courtesy. We will serve as a positive role model and offer acceptable alternatives for resolving conflicts. Please keep in mind that that there will be disagreements between children. Young children who are not adept at communication have a hard time expressing their feelings. Sometimes they hit, pinch or throw toys etc. This is normal behavior in most cases, however this is still unacceptable behavior in group care.GUIDANCE (DISCIPLINE) PLAN To guide a child we will implement developmentally appropriate techniques such as positive reinforcement, forestalling, redirection, active listening, and reflection. Strategies that engage children in their own problem solving will be highlighted. Children will be encouraged to use their words and express their feelings rather than use physical contact. Please understand that the provider is responsible for the safety and well-being of ALL children present and at no time will one child's behavior be allowed to present a risk to others.If the problem continues without improvement or cannot be resolved within a reasonable amount of time then arrangements may need to be made for the child to receive care elsewhere.Verbal AltercationsIf a child is involved in a verbal altercation with another child, both children will be encouraged to use their words and express their feelings and frustrations until a mutual resolution is reached. If necessary, both children will be redirected. Physical AltercationsWhen a child physically hurts another person, it is upsetting to all involved including the other children and the provider. Children who are aggressive are more likely to be rejected as playmates and will often continue to have problems getting along as they get older. Therefore, it is important to work with the child and to teach acceptable behavior as early as possible. It is not unusual for young children to push, hit or grab to get attention. They have not yet developed the skills to make their needs known. Children with limited motor control, verbal and social skills are more likely to experience frustration and may resort to physical means. Other reasons that may contribute to a child acting out may include boredom, over stimulation, tiredness, illness, hunger, transitions and major changes in the child’s life that may cause stress (new sibling, new home, parent separation etc.). With consistent messages from adults at home and at daycare, young children will learn the skills they need to solve problems without hurting others. If a child is involved in a physical altercation an opportunity for the children to verbally express themselves will be made and they will be asked to reach a consensus. Clear limits will be set and the offending child will be told, “You are not allowed to hurt another child here, this is a safe place and I cannot let you hurt others”. A younger child with limited language skills will be told “No hit” or “Use gentle hands”. The childcare provider will try to help the child understand how the hurt child feels by discussing empathy. Both children will then be redirected to different activities.Biting Biting causes more upset feelings than any other behavior in child care programs. It is important for the childcare provider and parents to address this behavior when it occurs. Children may bite for many reasons therefore a child that has shown the desire to bite will be watched carefully to try and determine any “triggers”. When a child bites (or intends to bite) another child the child care provider will quickly but calmly intervene. The childcare provider will briefly talk to the offending child about how biting is not acceptable. For a child with limited language the child will simply be told “No bite”. If the skin is broken, the wound will be washed with mild soap and water, bandaged and then an ice pack will be applied to prevent swelling. The parents of both children will be notified of the events. A plan of action will be created with the parents of the child that bit on how to prevent and handle future biting. If biting continues, a meeting with the parents of the aggressor will be held to plan a more concentrated plan of action with a deadline. The child who bit will be closely “shadowed”. When the child bites, the child will be removed from the area or activity where the bite took place and the child will be redirected to another activity. If a child still continues to bite or does not seem affected by the consequences, the child may need an environment with fewer children or one with more one-on-one adult attention and may need to change child care. Damages Please respect the child care provider, her profession, home and family. A certain amount of normal wear and tear is expected where children are concerned.Intentional Damages We believe children, just as adults, are responsible for their actions and we teach them to respect other people’s property. If a child intentionally damages the home, toys, furnishings, equipment, or other property the parent will be responsible for paying for and replacing the damaged item(s). -3000370TOILET TRAININGTOILET TRAININGThe provider will aid and assist in this process; however it is the parent's responsibility to start, continue and complete the process. Each child is an individual and develops at his/her own rate. There is no set age at which toilet training should begin. The right time depends on the physical and emotional readiness of each child.The most important issue is that the child is ready before beginning to train. This is usually between the ages of 18 months and three years. If training is started before the child is developmentally ready, training will be more difficult and may take longer. A child must be able to control the muscles that regulate the bowel and the bladder before beginning to train. Having the ability to get to the potty and then undress quickly are also important. HOME VS DAYCAREIt is important to remember that behavior and habits of children at home and at day care are often two very different things. It is not uncommon for a child to be completely trained at home but have no progress or success while at daycare. This is totally normal behavior. DAYCARE RULESWhen children reach the stage in which they are wearing training pants, a protective cover is required. This can either be a pair of plastic pants over the training underwear (preferred) or a Pull-up.For sanitary reasons and the health of our floor crawlers, do NOT bring your child in regular panties or underwear without protective covers until it has been cleared with the provider. Children can wear underwear without protection after two full weeks of being accident free AT child care. If an accident occurs, the two week period will begin again. REQUIRED CLOTHINGDuring toilet training, the child should be dressed in 'user friendly' clothing as much as possible. The best items are shorts and pants with full elastic waists. Families move, home situations change, and children grow. PARENT WITHDRAWALIn the event that a child/family needs to withdraw from child care and cancel the child care services agreement a two-week written notice will be required. Families receiving services for more than one child, a three-week written notice will need to be given. Notices are accepted on Fridays only and need to be accompanied by the final payment(s) IN FULL. Notices can NOT include the provider’s/parent’s vacation weeks. The provider also has a right to be respected in her profession and to receive and expect to be paid timely and in full for all services outlined in the contract and policy handbook.
