Sara FelizEDU 214 – Fall 201610/2/16Assignment 5 – Buying a ComputerTechnology in the classroom is a necessity. To better teach the children of our ever growing technology age…we need to have the correct tools. Which is why I suggest purchasing the Lenovo 300-23ACL F0BC All-In-One computer for my desk in the classroom. This particular computer has everything that is needed to create lessons, activities, post grades, keep track of attendance, create flyers, etc. The Lenovo 300-23ACL F0BC All-In-One computer is priced at a reasonable cost of $499.99 (found at Best Buy). It has a 23” touch-screen monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution (Full HD). This would be fantastic and bring my lessons to life. The monitor, keyboard, mouse and power adaptor are included with this price. The keyboard and mouse are wireless, which would help keep my desk from being cluttered with cords. This computer has a 1 year warranty (includes parts and labor). The Lenovo has a Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. Windows 10 introduces new features such as the Edge web browser (lets you markup Web pages on the screen). I would also download Google Chrome as an alternate web browser, in case there are any issues opening applications with the Edge web browser. The processor is an AMD A8-7410. This is an accelerated processor which enables great performance along with immersive graphics. Not only would this computer run smoothly with the processor, but the 8GB memory would allow multiple programs and browser tabs to be open all at once. Other built in features of this computer include a 2TB hard drive for an extensive collection of files, videos, and music. There is a DVD/CD burner that is able to read and write to a variety of media formats (DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW). The Lenovo includes 3 USB 2.0 ports to connect more accessories. It also has a built-in media reader for simple photo transfer (great for class photos, field trips, class parties, etc.). A compatible printer for this computer would be a HP – Officejet Pro 6978 Wireless All-In-One Instant Ink Ready Printer for only $99.99 (found at Best Buy). This All-In-One device copies, faxes, prints and scans. If Wi-Fi is down, it also connects to the computer with a USB 2.0 plugin. It prints out 30 copies per minute (black)/26 copies per minute (color); it also prints 2-sided documents. There is a 1 year warranty for parts and labor on this printer. The ink cartridge refills are $30.99 (HP 902 3-pack Multicolor; Best Buy) and $36.99 (HP 902XL High Yield Ink cartridge/black; Best Buy). Technical support can be obtained for the computer and the printer through Best Buy. The service is called the Geek Squad. A 1 year support cost on the computer is $89.99 / 2 year $149.99 / 3 year $209.99. For the printer it would cost $9.99 for 1 year. This computer is equipped with a 30-day free trial of Microsoft Office 365. However, a 1 year subscription for Microsoft Office 365 would need to be obtained for $69.99 (found at Best Buy). This would include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook. I would also like to purchase educational software such as: Interactive Whiteboards Made Easy, Level 2: 30 Activities to Engage All Learners for $16.19 (found at Store). This type of program will engage the entire classroom through technology. The products that I have researched and listed above would be ideal for an organized and efficiently run classroom. I also feel that I would be able to connect better with the parents of the students using the above equipment. The students will continue to thrive with learning in the technology age as well.Website References:1) Best Buy (2016, October 1). Lenovo Computer. Retrieved from ) Best Buy (2016, October 1).
