Chandler FFA Wins State FFA Veterinary Science Event

STILLWATER, Okla. — Members of the Chandler FFA Chapter won first-place honors in the state FFA veterinary science career development event during the 2021 Oklahoma FFA Interscholastics from April 12 to April 14.

Team members were Jared Stone, Ethan Stone, Sadie Sherman and Baylee Bowen. J. Stone placed first and E. Stone placed second in the virtual contest. The Chandler agricultural education instructor and FFA adviser is Stuart Symes.

This team will represent Oklahoma in the veterinary science CDE at the National FFA Convention in October.

The veterinary science CDE is a competitive event testing the participants’ ability to perform practical veterinary assisting activities, as well as identify breeds, parasites and equipment. Participants also complete a written exam and respond to scenario questions about current topics in the veterinary industry.

The OSU Ferguson College of Agriculture hosted the contest. Livestock Nutrition Services and Dr. Phil and Linnie Berkenbile will provide a cash award to the team for expenses related to the national contest. Dr. Phil and Linnie Berkenbile and the Oklahoma FFA Foundation Presidents Club will provide a $1,000 scholarship to the high individual.
