The Praxis Series tests are required for education ...
[pic]
The Praxis Series tests are required for education certification in the state of Pennsylvania as well in most other states. They are comprised of the PPST I tests and the PPST II Subject Tests. Pre-registration is required for all tests.
a. The PPST I tests include three one-hour tests which are designed to measure basic skills in reading, writing and mathematics, mostly lessons learned in high school and your first few years here. These may be taken either as a paper test OR at a Prometric Testing Center as computerized tests. You must pre-register for either type of test. These tests cost $40.00 each
b. A separate PPST I test (two hours long) entitled Fundamental Subject: Content Knowledge is required for all K-6 and K-12 certifications. This is a paper test only.
c. The PPST II tests (two hours long) measures the content knowledge of your specific subject certification area(s) as well as general and subject-specific teaching skills and knowledge. You must take a separate test for each certification area…i.e. English AND Communication, Biology AND General Science, Elementary AND Early Childhood. These are paper-tests only and cost $80.00 each.
d. There is a $50 one-time, non-refundable registration fee which covers all paper-based tests taken in the same testing year.
Test Sessions: You may take one 2-hour test or two 1-hour tests each test session.
1) First session is at 7:30 AM
2) Second session is at 10:45 AM
3) Third session is at 2:00 PM.
Grove City College does not require you to complete your Praxis testing until your senior year. We strongly recommend that education majors plan to take their Praxis tests between the end of their Junior year and January of their Senior year. Scores must be received in the GCC Education Office before a certification application can be processed and forwarded to the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Testing requirements for all states that use Praxis testing may be found in the GCC Education Office or on the Praxis website (praxis) . You are also encouraged to check directly with the state agency with which you are seeking licensure for the latest details.
Pennsylvania has reciprocity with 46 states, however you may still have to complete further requirements for the particular state. Please feel free to contact Mr. William Foster at 724-458-2166, wsfoster@gcc.edu or Mrs. Evelyn Fields at 724-458-2400 ejfields@gcc.edu for further assistance.
BELOW are some general Praxis registration instructions to assist you.
1. REGISTER ONLINE at praxis OR USE THE REGISTRATION FORM IN EACH BOOKLET. REGISTRATION ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE online & in the GCC Educ. Office.
2. LISTED BELOW ARE THE TESTS/SCORES REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATION IN
PENNSYLVANIA WHICH PERTAIN TO GROVE CITY COLLEGE AT THIS TIME
3. ALWAYS SUBMIT THE SAME NAME AND ADDRESS AND CANDIDATE I.D. # ON REGISTRATION FORMS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. (Preferably use your home address.)
4. BE CERTAIN TO ENTER THE NUMBER FOR GCC (#2277) IN ALL PERTINENT REGISTRATION AREAS – Attending Institution AND Score Recipient EACH TIME YOU REGISTER. NUMBER #2277 MUST BE ENTERED IN BOTH AREAS FOR THE COLLEGE TO RECEIVE YOUR SCORES SO WE CAN SUBMIT THEM WITH YOUR CERTIFICATION APPLICATION. This then leaves you two more score recipients to have your scores forwarded to at no cost, i.e…VA, WA, NC, etc. Pennsylvania will automatically receive your scores when you list GCC as your attending institution and as a score recipient, when you take your test in PA. Except for your attending institution (GCC) only send your scores to states, not to colleges or universities. States are required to maintain your scores for five years in the event you wish to apply for certification in that state.
Registration also includes your social security number. ETS/Praxis must have the complete
SS number to process your scores to the PA Dept of Education.
5. TESTS-AT-A-GLANCE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ON-LINE and in the Curriculum Library.
6. NOTE PRICE CHANGES for this academic year. CHECK OUT THE FEE WAIVER SECTION and apply early if your meet the criteria.
7. SUBMIT/MAIL YOUR REGISTRATION AT LEAST TEN DAYS BEFORE THE DUE DATE.
8. Always arrive at your test site early prepared with photo ID and admission ticket, and #2 pencils, if taking the paper test. And prepare the night before by having a quiet evening and a good night's sleep.
