The River Club has been an exclusive, member operated, private dining club in downtown Kansas City since 1948, when it was founded by seven Kansas City business leaders who recognized the desire for a distinctive luncheon and dinner club on the western edge of downtown Kansas City. The clubhouse features elegant dining rooms, which accommodate both a la carte dining and private parties. The River Club has an unparalleled reputation for serving consistently high quality cuisine and providing excellent food and beverage service for its 269 members and their guests. The club’s Executive Chef is Mr. Howard Hanna, who has received both local and national recognition regarding his culinary skills. The River Club serves lunch five days a week and dinner six days a week (closed Sunday), and has attractive facilities for both private and Club parties which can accommodate up to 120 guests. The annual Food & Beverage revenues are $750,000.

The General Manager reports to The River Club’s Board of Directors and is responsible for coordinating all management functions of the Club, including supervision and oversight of the Club’s entire dining operation and its internal administrative matters, including billing, human resources, staff management, and member communications. The General Manager also works in concert with the committee chairs of the Club, and assists in the development of policies, programs, events and other responsibilities as requested by the Board.

The ideal candidate will have considerable management experience at a recognized Club which reflects significant experience in food and beverage operations, including fine dining and wine experience and private-party planning. The candidate should have a proven record of financial and operational management and must have experience managing a food and beverage staff. The expectation is that the General Manager will provide reflective and visionary leadership to the Board of Directors, members, and staff, recognizing and proactively anticipating trends and relevant impacts to the Club. The successful candidate will ensure that The River Club is consistently striving to provide ‘best in the area’ service, ambiance and dining programs that will promote and further develop the business, civic and community connections. Long-range and strategic planning skills are also considered important. The Club is interested in attracting a candidate who has strong communication and management skills in working with the Club’s employees. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated team leader and will provide leadership and guidance to an established and loyal group of department heads and employees. In addition, it is expected that the General Manager will develop a strong relationship with the Club’s members, officers and directors. The Club is seeking candidates who are professional in appearance and possesses a welcome and accommodating service attitude. The Club’s General Manager must be an energetic, creative and visible manager to the staff and membership. A College degree and CCM designation is preferred.

Salary: Open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. A CMAA package is included as well as a bonus and benefits package.
