The Datastream database contains a comprehensive market data for over 63,000 quotes (approx. 45,000 companies) worldwide, and 12,000 global market indexes. Datastream also has extensive details on fundamental indicators such as earnings, dividends, and sales.

The Datastream market data provides a "rolling" 10 years of daily historical data.

Datastream’s information covers over 50 markets and 150 countries, with a key focus on emerging and pre-emerging markets.

How to Use this Glossary

All item definitions are listed alphabetically according to the PiranhaWeb Item Name.

To find a specific item or term either:

AdjustmentFactor

The stock split which has occurred on that day, not a cumulative factor.

ADRIndicator

Indicates companies which have American Depository Receipts trading on a U.S. exchange. If a company has ADRs, an "X" would be provided in this field.

AnnualizedDividendRate

The rolling 12-month dividend amount.

Beta

A coefficient that measures an equities relative volatility compared to the markets.

BetaCorrelation

A statistical measure of the degree to which two variables are related in this case the variables being the market and a particular security.

BreadthIndex

The number equities expressed as a percentage which had trading activity for that day.

CashEarningsPerShare

Cash earnings on a per share basis for the current period for a particular issue.

CashEarningsPerShareDate

Date of the earnings per share.

CashFlow

Net income plus depreciation and other non-cash charges synonymous with cash earnings for a company.

CommonSharesOutstanding

The current number of common shares outstanding for an issue.

CountryCode

A code that determines which country a security resides in.

CurrencyCode

A code that determines which currency an issue is being traded in.

CurrentCurrencyCode

A code that determines what the current currency the issue is being traded in.

CurrentPeriodAnnual

Code used to denote annual data.

CurrentPeriodDaily

Code used to denote daily data.

CurrentPeriodMonthly

Code used to denote monthly data.

CurrentPeriodQuarterly

Code used to denote quarterly data.

CurrentPeriodWeekly

Code used to denote weekly data.

CUSIP

Nine digit CUSIP number for issue identification.

CUSIP6

First six digits of the CUSIP number.

DatastreamCode

A code used by Datastream to identify that issue

DatastreamIndex

A code used to identify an index in Datastream.

DCN

Disclosure Company Number.

DividendAmount

The dividend amount paid for the past year.

DividendAmountCurrent

Returns the Last dividend amount Paid.

DividendCover

Dividend Coverage Ratio.

DividendCurrencyCurrent

Currencyofthe Current Dividend Amount

DividendExDate

The time interval between the announcement and payment of a dividend an investor who buys shares during that interval will not receive a dividend payment it will instead go to the seller.

Provides the last ex-dividend date

DividendIndex

Dividend amount paid by the composite of an index.

DividendPaymentDate

The date that a dividend has been paid.

Code that identifies the type of dividend the company is paying (stock or cash).

Code that identifies the type of dividend the company paid last (stock or cash).

DividendYield

The percentage yield an issue is paying out on an annual basis for dividends.

EarningsIndex

The level of earnings as a percentage past a certain point for an index.

EarningsYield

The portion of a company's profit paid on each share of common stock expressed as a percentage.

EntityKey

A unique identifying key for each company, issue, index, quote, etc.

EntityName

The Entity Name represents the name of the Company, Issue, Quote, etc.

EntitySubType

Indicates the subclass of entity within the Entity type class.

EntityType

Indicates the type of Entity - e.g. Company, Issue, Quote, Index, etc.

EPSConsensusForecastPeriodFYR1

The Earnings Forecast for next fiscal year.

EPSConsensusForecastPeriodFYR2

Earnings forecast for the fiscal year two years out.

EPSFYREnd

Earnings for the past Fiscal Year end.

EPSFYREndDate

The Company’s fiscal year end for earnings.

EPSLast12Months

A trailing 12 months earning value.

First EPS date for the trailing 12 month earnings value.

EPSMeanFYR1

The mean estimate for the next fiscal years earnings estimates.

EPSMeanFYR2

The mean estimate for the fiscal year two years out earnings estimates.

EquityStatus

Code that distinguishes living and dead securities.

EuroConversionDate

Euro Conversion Date is the date that a company converted to the Euro from its native currency.

Exchange

The exchange a quote or issue is listed on.

ExDividendAdjustment

The fall in the price that is equivalent to the dividend payment

FiscalPeriod

Time period associated with the data.

FiscalYearEndDate

The date of the last Fiscal Year End for the company.

FYREndMonth

The month that the companies fiscal year ends in.

FYREndMonthCurr

The current month that a companies fiscal year ends in. Useful if it has changed recently.

FYRTransitionMonth

The month in which the company changes fiscal year.

GeographyGroupCode

Code that determines the companies geographic region.

InactiveDate

The date an issue has gone inactive.

IndustryGroupCode

A code used to determine the industry group a company belongs to.

InstrumentType

The type of investment instrument.

ISIN

Identification Number

The date associated with the last dividend paid.

LastNationalCurrencyDate

Last National Currency Date is the last date that a company was still reporting in its native currency.

LastPriceDate

Date associated with pricing.

Piranha license code.

LocalCode

Official Local Exchange Code.

MarketToBookValue

Market price compared to the price of the company on its books.

MarketValue

The value of a corporation as determined by the market price of its issued shares and common shares outstanding (Market Capitalization).

The closing price of a stock index.

Index price rebased to show percentage change over time.

The lowest price that an issue traded at that day.

Price to Book Value of a company or the market value compared to the value of the company according to its books.

Code that determines if an issue is a child of another company.

North American Industry Classification Standard Code.

Code that indicates if a quote is the companies primary quote.

ReturnIndex

The 12-month return assuming dividends are reinvested.

ReturnIndexNet

The net return assuming dividends are reinvested after tax.

ReturnIndexOfficial

The official return assuming dividends are reinvested.

ReturnOnEquity

A percentage that expresses the amount earned on a companies common stock investment for a given time period.

SEDOL

Identifying code assigned by the LSE.

StartDate

When a security began its pricing history.

StockIndex

A mnemonic of the leading stock market index for the county with which a stock is associated.

StrengthIndex

A percentage of the advancing issues vs. declining issues.

Ticker

Companies ticker symbol used on an exchange.

ToUSD

Conversion to US Dollars value (historical or at time of issue).

ToUSDCurrent

The current value converted to US Dollars.

TradedValue

Total value of the constituent shares traded.

VALOR

Identifying number

The total number of shares traded for a particular period.
