OverviewThis document includes analytic job descriptions that are used to staff the Quality and Transformation Analytic Team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The team supports many areas across the hospital and is comprised of members with differing areas of focus. Primary areas supported by the group include 1) Capacity Management, Productivity, and Flow, 2) Patient and Employee Safety, 3) Patient and Family Experience, 4) Community Health, 5) Learning Networks, 6) Chronic Conditions, and 7) Divisional and Domain support. When hiring for positions that are to primarily support Capacity Management, Productivity and Flow, we look for candidates who have education and experience in the areas that include Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Management, and/or Operations Research. The job descriptions reflect a career ladder that include Associate Analyst (who is new to the area of analytics), Analyst (who has some experience but requires more experience before leading), Sr. Analyst (experienced analyst able to lead and coach) and Lead Analyst (highly skilled and experienced analyst with strong leadership skills with director reports). Associate Analyst – Quality & Transformation AnalyticsPURPOSE OF POSITION: Support data management and analysis necessary to support quality improvement and research in health care service delivery and patient outcomes. REQUIRED SKILLS: Analytic insight, problem-solving skills, and skill with basic statistical and other analytic methods; skill with statistical process control a plus. Flexibility and adaptability; attention to detail; good follow-through; service-orientation. Programming skill in SAS, advanced Excel, SQL, Visual Basic, ACCESS, Business Objects a plus. Ability to perform queries from relational databases, produce reports from such queries, and perform basic analyses such as frequency distributions and summary statistics. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to relate to diverse ages and demographic backgrounds. This could include updating values, responding to questions from customers, investigating instance of special cause. SUPPORT QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES IN CCHMC STRATEGIC INITIATIVES: Serve as a data and/or analytic resource for one or more initiative-based teams. INTERNAL SYSTEMS SUPPORT: Assist in the development of department-wide systems for automating the production of performance metrics, maintaining data management systems, developing visualizations and displays for performance metrics, developing and implementing processes for validating metric values. Take responsibility for ensuring that customers have the necessary support to visualize the performance of measures that interest them, to identify improvement opportunities, to gain access to source data that they require. Serve as liaison between customer and institutional stewards of data, if customers have basic data requirement needs. Escalate as appropriate to Senior or Lead Analyst for customer requirements that the analyst cannot meet directly. “Customer” conceived as a hospital unit (such as an Institute, Business Unit, Division, CSI Team), a collaborative in which CCHMC is the coordinator, a project of defined scope (e.g. a research project, a survey, etc.)Manage Performance Metrics: Assume responsibility for a portfolio of metrics for internal and/or external use. Managing performance metrics includes ensuring that values are updated regularly, responding to questions about the measures from customers, investigating instances of special cause. Document the operational requirements using standard methods. Analytic Consultation: Serve as customer’s primary point of analytic contact. Take responsibility for ensuring that customers have the necessary support to visualize the performance of measures that interest them, to identify improvement opportunities, to gain access to source data that they require. Serve as liaison between customer and institutional stewards of data, if customers have basic data requirement needs. Meet customers’ basic needs either directly, or by delegating responsibility to an analyst, while assuming final responsibility for the result. Meet customers’ moderate needs directly. If customer has advanced needs within analysts’ area of initiative-based expertise, meet directly; if advanced needs fall outside analysts’ area of initiative-based expertise, arrange for these needs to be met by enlisting the help of the initiative-based team. Train analysts hired in divisions outside the Anderson Center in the use of CCHMC data systems, the wiki data dictionary, the Performance Measurement and Reporting System, and other institution-wide systems for creating, managing and reporting performance metrics. Help to orient and mentor newly hired analysts in the Anderson Center. Prepare analytic on-boarding materials.Lead Analyst – Quality & Transformation AnalyticsTOTAL NUMBER OF FTE’s DIRECTLY SUPERVISED: 0-10PURPOSE OF POSITION: Support quality improvement initiatives in health care delivery systems by 1) coordinating the resources necessary to meet the analytic needs of an identified customer base, 2) mentoring CCHMC staff who demonstrate potential to develop analytic and reporting skills, and 3) serving as analyst liaisons to Anderson Center employees, to ensure that these staff are aware of and have access to resources within Data/Analytics to support QI initiatives.REQUIRED SKILLS: Ability to understand customer analytic needs, manage customer expectations, marshal resources necessary to meet customer analytic needs. Analytic insight, problem-solving skills, skill with advanced statistical methods and with statistical process control. Ability to coach and mentor staff, and develop analytic skill in others. Make colleagues and customers aware of Data/Analytics resources, including knowledge base, skill sets, prior experience). Provide coaching, mentoring and support to Analysts who are customers’ primary analytic contacts, offering guidance on best ways to meet customers’ needs, including relevant historical information, availability of other analytic resources, and direct meeting of needs. As needed, serve as the customer’s analytic consultant, and primary point of analytic contact. Help develop system-wide plans to build customers’ internal capacity for reporting and for basic analysis. In consultation with Director, determine plan for building internal capacity.Leadership in the Data/Analytics Group: If assigned direct reports, provide managerial support to direct reports including oversight on the quality initiatives supported. Ensure that teams have the resources they require, and that clinical partners feel that they are well-supported. Work with initiative leaders and clinical partners to prioritize requests. Ensure that the Director for Analytics remains aware of customers’ goals and activities, and how analysts assigned to customers can proactively meet those needs. Communicate strategic vision and tactical plans for customers regularly with the Director. Escalate issues when necessary to the Director, for resolution with CCHMC senior leadership. Participate in Data/Analytics Leadership Team meetings. Participate in strategic thinking about Data/Analytics human and technical infrastructure to optimize ability to provide analytic support to meet objectives and goals specified in CCHMC strategic plan. Mentor and develop the analytic skills of less experienced analysts within the group.
