Book Trailer Project/ Library, Literature, Computer Class Assignment

Guidelines:

1. Choose a book that you enjoyed that you want other kids to read. It does not have to be an 8th grade book; it can be a book you read years ago.

2. Decide on the point of view you want to use:

- First person: My name is Capricorn Anderson. Strange, I know, but it tells you a bit about my parents.

- Second Person: Imagine growing up on a commune with your hippie grandma.

- Third Person: The only family Ponyboy Curtis knows is his gang.

3. Use the storyboard to write what each frame will say. Tease your viewer; do not give too much information away. Will each frame have an image and words? Or, will the words be on a separate slide, followed by an image? You may want to write out what you want to say on scrap then transfer it to the story board.

4. Sketch what you think the image should be. You can use metaphors. If a character is very angry, you could use an image of a raging fire. Consider the age and appearance of the characters when choosing photos. The subject of the photo should resemble the description of the character. Include a photo of the book cover for either the beginning or end of the trailer.

5. Consider the tone and theme of the novel, and then choose music to match.

6. Your trailer should be 2-3 minutes long. Mrs. Lester will talk to you about the computer program, downloading music and downloading images.

7. If you’re having trouble getting started, you can view examples on the Books etc. page of our class website: sspplit.

8. Your completed storyboard is due on Wednesday, Sept. 29th and will count as a Literature homework grade.
