RULES FOR HEALTH ARTICLES

1. Each article that is read must be at least five paragraphs long.

1) Briefly describe the article in your own words.

2) This should contain at least five complete sentences.

b. PARAGRAPH #2: AREA OF HEALTH

1) Explain in which “Area of Health” the article would be

classified. (Areas of Health are on the back of this page)

2) Explain why the article belongs in that “Area of Health”

3) This should contain at least five complete sentences.

c. PARAGRAPH #3: NEW INFORMATION

1) Describe something new that you learned by reading the

article.

2) Explain the impact it had on you.

3) This should contain at least five complete sentences.

e. PARAGRAPH #4: OPINION

1) In your own words write what you thought about the article.

2) Explain why you enjoyed the article or why you did not enjoy the article.

3) What could have been done to make it more enjoyable for you?

THE TEN AREAS OF HEALTH

MENTAL HEALTH: ways to think clearly, express feelings, make responsible decisions, use refusal skills, and handle stress.

FAMILY AND SOCIAL HEALTH: family relationships, including the changes that occur within some families, skills for same and opposite sex friendships, communication skills, and peer pressure.

GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT: the mental, physical, and social changes that occur throughout the life cycle and healthful approaches to maturing and aging.

NUTRITION: the nutrients needed for optimum health and disease prevention, the dietary guidelines, eating habits, eating disorders, weight control, and food labeling.

EXERCISE AND FITNESS: the health benefits of exercise, the components of physical fitness and fitness skills, the design of physical fitness plans, lifetime sports, and prevention of exercise and sports injuries.

DRUGS: drug use, misuse, abuse, and chemical dependency with an emphasis on prevention, responsible decision-making skills, refusal skills, treatment, rehabilitation, and laws.

DISEASES AND DISORDERS: prevention, causes, signs, symptoms, and treatment of communicable diseases, including those that are sexually transmitted, and non-communicable diseases and disorders.

CONSUMER AND PERSONAL HEALTH: personal habits, products, services, medical and dental care, consumer protection agencies, and health careers that have an effect on health.

SAFETY AND FIRST AID: protection strategies, prevention, care, and treatment for injuries and illnesses resulting from accidents, emergency situations, and crimes.

COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: personal strategies, health services, and health organizations that maintain and promote the health of people and the environment in your community, state, nation, and world.
