ItemEstimateActualHarry Potter Book500g355gChallenge: Create a graph representing your findings. Biology/Zoology, The Brain: Check out On the left, click on List of Specimens. Have a look at the brains of three different animals, compare using a Venn Diagram. Try to put focus on part of their brains and remember that for the cerebrum (the thinking brain) the more wrinkles, the greater surface area and therefore more thinking power. You might see that animals that rely on their sense of smell, have a large bulbous part coming out in front of the frontal lobe (for example look up lions). I can’t wait to see your Venn Diagrams. Woodwork: Make a Geoboard using a wooden board and nails (alternatively you can use a pinboard and pins). You will need elastic bands to use the geoboard. Note: The more nails/pins, the more intricate your creations can be. Observe and write: Find a calm space in the garden, or choose a window inside your house with a nice view. Sit still for about 2 minutes and just listen and look at what is going on around you. Then write for 20 minutes… you might write about what you see in the garden, or what smells you notice. You might be inspired to write a creative story about small creatures living in the soft dirt in the garden beds or what is it like to be a honeybee. Let your mind go free!Feel free to illustrate your story/writing.Perspective Drawing: Pick a random item from your house that looks different from different angles. Draw it from the following angles/views:FrontLeft sideRight sideBackBirds eye (top) Natural History: Take a tour of The Museum of Natural History Choose one topic to write 10 FACTS about in your Culture book.Once you have written the 10 facts, you might want to explore further (games, videos, stories, etc) Have fun! Alphabet writing: Write the alphabet vertically in your language book. For each letter, write a word or a short sentence that relates to Distance Learning. For example:A alone in my roomB biology from homeC computer meetings with friendsD distance learning is funE F(if you prefer another topic, go for it! Just make sure you write in your book what the topic is)10-min math sheet. Time yourself and check your answers with a calculator. If there are any times tables you keep struggling with, focus on those this week, for your times table practice.Astronomy: Write down 10 cool facts about the Earth’s moon. This website might be useful: the moon each night for 2 weeks (or more). Draw the various stages you see on the attached Moon Watch Flip Book. When you finish your observations cut along the lines and staple together on the left to make a flip book. Cool, right? Set up a shop in your kitchen, using items from the pantry. Make price tags for each item. From scrap paper, make paper money (or use Monopoly money) and hand it out to your family members – make sure you keep some money for your own till. Invite your customers (family) into your shop. You may use a calculator to add up prices. Ensure to give the correct change back to your customers. (This will also count as Math!) MAKE SURE YOU RETURN EVERYTHING TO THE PANTRY AFTERWARDS! Watch an entire episode of Behind the News and choose one story to write a summary of you want to challenge yourself, you may want to summaries the entire episode.Horse Racing probability: Find the attached game of Horse Racing Probability. Follow the instructions and play with up to 4 members of your family. In your math book, write the different ways of rolling 2-12 using 2 dice: 2: 1+13: 1+2, 2+14: 1+3, 2+2, 3+1. Etc.Hint: The total number of possible rolls with 2 dice would 36. Challenge: Write the various probabilities as fractions and percentages. Eg. 4: there are three ways of rolling 4, 1+3, 3+1 and 2+2. So, this is 3 out of 36 possible rolls (Fraction 3/36). This is also 8.33%.Geography: Choose a continent. Explore the mountains and mountain ranges on that continent. If there are more than one mountain range, choose ONE to explore in more detail.Things to consider:What countries are the mountains/ranges in?What is the highest point? How was it created? What biomes are present on the mountain? (eg. Tundra, alpine, coniferous forest, etc.) What animals are present? Help fold the washing and with the ironing, if possible. Be careful not to burn yourself on the iron. Grammar: Choose a paragraph in the book you are currently reading (different to last week). Copy the paragraph in your language book. Use the Montessori Grammar Symbols (see form from last week) to identify each parts of speech. Geometry: Create a Geometry Star similar to the one you did with Katrine a couple of weeks ago. This time start with a 4 cm line in the center of your white piece of paper, label one end of the line A and the other end B. Then draw 30 dots around the line. Using your ruler, draw a line from point A to one of the dots, then another line from that dot to point B on your initial line. Continue this for all 30 dots. Colour in your star to make a colour explosion! Science/Engineering: Build a house or a structure out of a pack of playing cards. If you have more than one deck of cards – add to the structure if you are able to. Dance-Off. Learn a new style of dancing. Do this for all the members of your family!Eg. “Lebron James” would be 766888+ 76768Human Body: Play the “-Ectomy!” game with your family. You may need to print out more game boards (I have only provided two) from the school website, under Distance Learning, Cycle 3, Culture. Have fun!To prepare for the game, you should complete the worksheet “Put Your Brain On!”, by colouring in and cutting it out, following the instructions.
