Life Stages and Cultural Diversity Paper Doll and Essay – Ms. Lepore – Principles of Health ScienceDUE: Monday, January 14th.Objective: Each student will gain an understanding of the developmental stages of the human, from infancy through late adulthood, and be able to share their culture with the rest of the class by explaining and displaying their doll in the classroom. Method: Each student will be assigned a developmental stage. You are to make a paper doll to resemble yourself at the developmental stage you are assigned. You need to identify several characteristics of that developmental stage and emphasize the physical, mental, social, and emotional aspects based on what we discuss in class. Essay Portion: Within a 2-page, double-spaced, 12-point font write-up, each student will also emphasize their own cultural background with the following information. Please write the paper in essay paragraph format (no citations needed), but do number each paragraph or sub-section with the corresponding number below to make sure you have done them all. No bullet-point lists!: Research these questions by asking your family. Ethnicity (ethnic background and/or nationality) Ancestral country of origin (where your grandparents were born) Student's birth place (where you were born) Family structure – nuclear family (parent(s)/guardian(s) & children) or extended family (grandparents, non-traditional arrangement)Authoritative figures in the home – matriarchal (mother), patriarchal (father), otherSpiritual background and special religious practices, if any (only what you are comfortable discussing, but please try to think broadly and write something here)Health beliefs of your grandparents, or alternatively, the health beliefs of your cultural or personal background(s)Which of those ancestral health beliefs you still use and practice in your family (if any; if not, explain why)Significant beliefs related to death and burial (if any; if not, explain why)Imagine an event in your paper doll’s life stage; it can be a real event from your childhood/infancy, or it can be an imagined event from the future. Describe how the characteristics of that stage, which we discuss in class, tie in to this event. Be creative!Paper Doll Project Portion: The project portion needs to be in the shape of a paper doll, approximately 8? x11 or 11x17, and dressed for that age group. It must include at least three aspects of that age group, from the class discussion/powerpoint. For childhood, please pick an age. You can (but are not required to) use pictures of yourself or a relative as accompanying material in creating the paper doll. Use creativity and imagination to make your doll realistic. These will be displayed in the classroom. Assessment: You will need to hand in a 2-page typed report including the above numbered information. Students will be assigned a developmental stage and a group. The project MUST be completed individually, but you will present each stage as a progression in a group. For example, a group of six will discuss the progression from infancy to late adulthood. You will individually be given 3-5 minutes.
