I have found that this set of food choices is unbalanced and unhealthy. There should be more whole fruit, dairy, and protein available. There are too many refined grains and not enough whole grains. The sodium intake exceeds the daily amount by about 347mg. We can see in the chart that empty calories also exceed the amount recommended for a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, not enough calories are being served. To refurbish the plan, another fruit such as an orange or banana should be served at breakfast time along with the oatmeal. Ways to increase dairy intake could include adding a milk and yogurt to the list of choices. Adding more poultry (keeping it low in fat) or adding turkey will enhance amount of protein.lefttopMenu:BreakfastYogurt & GranolaStrawberriesLunchTurkey & Cheese SubBroccoli & CauliflowerLettuce/Tomato/PicklesSweet Potato FriesApplesauce Cake(Topped with Warm Apples)Evaluation:After examining the Gainesville City School’s Menu plan for a second time, this date being on March 23, 2012, I have come across another unhealthy, unbalanced conclusion. Even though the data results are better than the first, there are many adjustments that need to be made to make this plan healthy for elementary schools in our school system. A consistent problem in this design includes the amount of refined grains compared to whole grains. Even though the amounts of total grains are sufficient, whole grains should always amount to more. A side of rice should be taken into consideration as an alteration to the sweet potato fries which will also reduce the amount of vegetables, which needs to be done. Instead of pickle slice, a whole dill pickle ought to be placed in the menu. Adding another meat to the turkey sub, such as ham, will benefit. Sodium intake still exceeds the amount recommended, as well as empty calories. ................
