Laudato Si: Pope Francis asks: “What kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up? It is no longer enough, simply

to state that we should be concerned for future generations. We need to see that what

is at stake is our own dignity.  Leaving an inhabitable planet to future generations is, first

and foremost, up to us.” And so, we need to start now.

PLEASE NOTE: Spanish classes begin Monday, April 4 at the Guadalupe Center at 5:30pm. Everyone is welcome.

The Feast of Divine Mercy, is celebrated the Sunday after Easter, this year, on Sunday, April 3.   In preparation for this feast, it is good to make a novena beginning on Good Friday, this year March 25, and ending on the eve of Divine Mercy, April 2.  There are a limited number of pamphlets at the back of church with the Divine Mercy Novena Prayers as well as others that explain the devotion of Divine Mercy.  Feel free to take them to keep. Remember Jesus pours his mercy upon us on this feast to make our souls like the newly baptized. This special grace of forgiveness of all sin and temporal punishment for sin is granted with the following conditions:

 a. Go to confession before or on the feast day, going during Lent is sufficient.

 b. Be in the state of grace--no mortal sin.

 c. Receive Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday with the intention of receiving this special grace.

d. Do acts of mercy such as forgiving people, praying for others, and have the intention to be more merciful to our

neighbors.

Lighthouse sale extended!!  The half price sale will be extended to Divine Mercy Sunday (April 3rd).  Because we ran out of some items (now restocked) we are extending the sale to one week after Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday.  If you ever wondered what this feast day is all about pick up one of Fr. Gaitley's  booklets, "Divine Mercy explained".  Also if you

didn't get a CD of the Lamb Supper by Scott Hahn we now have more of them available.

Rice Bowls: Please put your name on your Rice Bowls and return them to the office or the collection containers in the back of church. Rice Bowls should be turned in by April 3 at the latest please.

PRAY THE ROSARY DAILY FOR VOCATIONS

May our prayers and sacrifices encourage young men and

women to discern a vocation to priesthood or Consecrated Life. If interested, contact Vocation Director, Fr. Pins 515-237-5050 or jpins@

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PRAYER FOR THE JUBILEE OF MERCY…Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father & have told us that whoever sees you sees God. Show us your face & we will be saved. You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness & mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world. Send your Spirit & consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord & your church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. Amen

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today begins the Easter Season, our 50-day meditation

on the mystery of Christ's Resurrection.

Today’s gospel tells us that the disciples did not yet understand that Jesus had risen from the dead. The details provided are not necessarily meant to offer proof of the Resurrection.

but invite us to reflect upon a most amazing gift, that is faith in Jesus and his Resurrection.

YEAR OF MERCY….SEVEN CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY….“are charitable actions by which we help our neighbors in their bodily needs” (USCCA). They respond to the basic needs of humanity as we journey together through this life.

1) Feed the Hungry 2) Give Drink to the Thirsty

3) Shelter the Homeless – Christ encourages us to go out and meet those without homes,

affirming their worth and helping them seek a resolution to the challenges they face.

QUESTION OF WEEK – When did I last glimpse the face of God’s mercy in my life? Whose life will I try to brighten this Easter by permitting God’s mercy shine on them through my compassion.
