iPad BasicsSo you just got a new iPad, but don’t know how to use it yet, never fear, this handy guide will show you the basics! The best part is that Apple sets everything up so that a) it’s very intuitive, and b) most thing work the same way. So if you know how to do the basics, you shouldn’t have any trouble moving on to the more complicated stuff! The Buttons:243840190500On/Off: When the iPad is off, all you have to do to turn it on is press this handy little button and it will spring back to life! When the iPad is back on and you press the button again, it will go into the power saving Sleep mode, if you press either the on/off button or the home button, the lock screen will show and you can unlock your iPad to resume what you were doing. If the iPad is on and you hold down the on/off button a slider will appear on the screen: and if you slide the image of the power button, the iPad will turn off, waiting patiently until you reboot it.Mute/ Screen Orientation Lock:This button will both mute the sound coming from your iPad’s internal speakers and lock the orientation of the screen (in whichever orientation it is currently in) so that it won’t flip around on you if you’re trying to read or view something from a different angle.Volume: This two ended button performs the usual operations of a volume button, with one end raising the volume of the sound, and the other end lowering it.Home Button:This is the real bread and butter of the iPad, when you’re in an app and you want to go back out to the main screen to change apps or because you’re done all you have to do is press this button and you will instantly go back to the home screen.411289560261500Because there are a few apps that you might want to have running all at once, Apple has made it so that even if you go back out to the home screen your apps will continue to run in the background until you specifically turn them off. This is done by double tapping the home button which will bring up a list of all the open apps:Simply swipe upwards while touching the app you wish to close. The Lock Screen:When you turn on or wake your iPad from sleep mode, a similar image to the right hand one above should appear, simply place your finger anywhere on the screen and swipe to the right. If you have your iPad protected with a passcode, the left hand image will appear and you just have to tap on the numbers of your code to unlock the iPad for use. The Home Screen:The Home Screen is where all of your apps will be displayed and can be customized to have your most used apps front and center if you wish.To move apps around simply place your finger on any app and hold it still until small x’s appear in the top right hand corner of each picture and the apps begin to wiggle:You can then drag the apps into any order that you want. You can create folders of apps that go together by dragging one app on top of another and holding it there until it shows them as a group that you can then name as you see fit:To add more apps to the folder simply drag them over to it and release your finger.Control Centre:The control centre is accessed by placing your finger ever so slightly off the bottom of the screen and dragging upwards onto the screen. From here you can play or pause music, change the current song, turn WiFi, airplane mode, Bluetooth, do not disturb mode, and screen orientation lock on or off, as well as access the camera or timer and adjust the screen brightness. We’ve been doing a lot of talking about apps so far, but what if you don’t know what they are yet?
