It is the 3rd commonest form of skin cancer after basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. It is the main cause of mortality due to skin cancer. Treatment mainly consists of excising the suspicious lesion, which determines the depth of the melanoma, called Breslow thickness. Some melanoma will require further surgery such as a wide local excision, sentinel lymph node biopsy or a lymph node dissection. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all surgical specialties dramatically. To what extent it has altered melanoma care is unknown. Aims and objectives of the project:To conduct a national audit of melanoma treatment by Plastic Surgery units within the UK.?To establish what effect COVID-19 has had on the treatment pathways within melanoma. Project outline: National retrospective and prospective audit of melanoma by Plastic Surgery in the UK. Start date to be confirmed. How can I get involved? We are actively recruiting collaborators who will collect data on patient undergoing melanoma surgery in Plastic Surgery units in the UK. We expect to commence collecting data very shortly. There is no issue with having several collaborators from one unit in this project. It is important to ensure you work with the other collaborators ensure you collect data on different patients. Responsibilities of a collaborator to be PubMed cited:Gain support from your department (e.g. consultant supervisor)Register the project?Melanoma: PlastUK?with your NHS Trust.Collect retrospective or prospective data on 10 patients with melanoma undergoing surgery between 23rd March and 30th June. Follow these up with their histology results. Upload anonymised data to REDCap database.BenefitsCertificate of involvement will be provided on completion of the project.Pubmed citation on any subsequent publication directly related to these data.Cited as a collaborator on any presentation relating to these data and RSTN website.Option to present local data separately (i.e. local?or regional meeting).Plastic surgery units with representatives:It is possible to have multiple representatives from a single unit, and in this instance you should work with the other collaborators to ensure you collect data on different lesions.
