Interest Groups, Special Activities, and Night ActivitiesInterest Groups:Interest Group time is an opportunity for campers to choose what they want to do for that hour. Our Resource Staff offers three Interest Groups: Arts & Crafts, Ceramics, and Nature. The Resource Co-coordinators facilitate all Interest Groups scheduling. Counselors are required at each Resource Staff-run Interest Group.Arts & Crafts- getting Artsy and Crafty! Meets in Art Grotto, facilitated by our Arts and Crafts Specialist. Specialist will determine the project per Interest Group. Tie dye can be done as part of your Arts & Crafts time (or on your own as a conference; see note on tie dye that follows). Special accommodations may be made on a conference-to-conference basis at the discretion of the Resource Co-coordinators. Ceramics- Working with Clay, Meets at Ceramics DenFacilitated by our Ceramics Specialist.2-day session. 1 day for creating and 1 for glazing. Example: if 10 campers go to ceramics on Monday to create, they must come back during the Wed session to glaze their projects. Ceramics is not available on Fridays to accommodate kiln firing. Max 15 kids per session.Nature – Nature will offer a variety of topics and activities throughout the week, including nature hikes, stream hikes, edible hikes, gardening, Earth Avengers, and Meet the Critters. Close-toed shoes are required. Meets at Nature Hut, facilitated by our Nature Specialist.*****Counselor Run Interest Groups: Counselors are encouraged to run their own Interest Groups Option during Interest Group Time. It provides campers with choices beyond what camp staff has to offer. What are the Counselors interested in sharing with the campers? What gifts do they bring to the Ministry? This is a wonderful time for Counselors to take on a leadership role with the conference, and creates wonderful Counselor/Conferee bonding opportunities. There are many tools and resources available to counselors. Your Resource Person will be able to provide you with materials and program guides for Theater Games, Drumming (water bottle drums), tie dye, and Games and Sports. Counselors have run some of the most creative and inventive Interest Groups! Special ActivitiesSpecial Activities are opportunities for your conference to participate in an activity as a whole conference. These can run 30 min up to 1.5 hours, and do require a more in depth amount of preparation on both the Dean’s part and Staff. Counselor and Dean Participation is required.Tie Dye: The Arts & Crafts Specialist can facilitate tie dying as part of an Arts & Crafts class. Or, if you’d like to tie dye with your entire conference, your Resource Person can get you dye, buckets, and instructions. We have Tie Dye on hand, or you are welcome to provide more color options or brighter dye for your conference to use. *CAMP DOES NOT PROVIDE MATERIAL TO DYE! *It is important to think ahead if you are interested in having tie dye for your conference. There are a few options when it comes to having material to dye:T-shirts are the obvious choice. Some less popular, but equally as fun, options include bandanas, scarves, or pillowcases. These articles can also be more affordable. In your Conference Dean Letter, request that each conferee bring a “Plain White T-shirt (or other chosen article)” for a craft project.Another options is to purchase them yourself for the conference out of your conference budget (bandanas and pillow cases can be bought in bulk for affordable prices)100% Cotton dyes the best. Polyester and Silk will not dye without special (and expensive) dye. Camp provided dyes are for Cotton based materials.Purchase requests can be made to the Resource Co-coordinators ahead of time, to be taken out of your conference Budget. HINT: When requesting conferees to bring a specific item, always bring extra in case they forget or cannot afford the item. There will always be at least 1 (if not more) who will not have the item with them. Items that do not have specific size are a safe option. ................
