Para 1
Over the past decade new technologies have advanced so quickly that they are beginning to change our lives. Some people would say, they are changing the very nature of the way we communicate. Theorists have argued about the effects of this. Some are positive. Some are negative. Included in these are different variants of determinism, ranging from the ideas of Marshall McLuhan to Melvin Kranzberg. This essay will consider these theories in the light of two forms of technology – television and the internet.
Or: start with an assertion:
Society is rapidly changing as a result of technological progress.
Or: start with a quotation

OR:

He says ‘burger quote’ McLuhan’s comments include the view that we have become detached, that we are on the brink of mental breakdown, and that we need endless new technologies to satisfy our media appetites. Clearly he takes a deeply cynical / determinist / negative / pessimistic view of technology. He says, for example, that technology has made us more isolated…etc
Para 3
