LOST DOG RECOVERY TIPS

Missing Pet Partnership

Here are 4 effective methods for recovering lost dogs that we suggest that you use:

TECHNIQUE #1 – Neon Posters – Neon posters using large letters that describe your dog in five words or less are highly effective. Even if you’ve already posted small white flyers, NEON posters with GIANT WORDS that convey a very brief description of your lost dog (a 5 word description in GIANT fonts that drivers can read in 5 seconds while traveling 55MPH) have proven over and over again to recover more lost dogs than white, 8 ½ X 11 flyers! Place these posters at the major intersection near where your dog escaped and create more posters on your own if needed. Be sure to research the sign regulations in your particular community (Google “sign ordinance” and your city) to make certain you are lost posting your signs illegally. Please remove all posters (and flyers) that you post once you’ve recovered your lost dog. MPP’s website has poster instructions under RECOVERY TIPS sub title “5+5+55 POSTERS.”

TECHNIQUE #2 – Craig’s List – There are many lost pet web sites out there (including ). However, the primary location that we suggest that you POST YOUR LOST DOG and that you search for all FOUND DOGS is . That’s because the average citizen who finds your dog might not be familiar with lost pet web sites, but a large number of people think of Craig’s List when they think of on-line “Lost and Found” Classified Ads.

TECHNIQUE #3 – Window Tagging – “Tagging” your car windows with florescent window markers and writing you lost dog information on the back window of your car is a fantastic way of “marketing” your lost dog while you drive in your neighborhood and community. LET PEOPLE KNOW that your dog is lost while you are driving. Detailed instructions on where to purchase markers and how to tag your car are listed on MPP’s site under RECOVERY TIPS and then HOW TO TAG YOUR CAR.

TECHNIQUE #4 – Intersection Alerts – Also known as “lost dog protests” this is where you use 4 giant, florescent REWARD LOST DOG posters to “market” your lost dog by standing on a street corner just like sign twirlers or protestors do to convey a message. During 4th of July week of 2008, MPP instructed 43 families to do this and 14 families got their lost dogs back by using this technique! For information on how to conduct an Intersection Alert, go to Missing Pet Partnership’s website and click on RECOVERY TIPS and INTERSECTION ALERTS.

A FINAL WORD – If your dog is friendly, it’s likely that SOMEONE HAS “RESCUED” YOUR DOG (your job will be to FIND THAT PERSON)! If your dog is skittish and is running from people, it’s likely that SOMONE HAS SEEN YOUR DOG (your job is to FIND THAT PERSON and get them to call you when they see your dog again). Either way, the best way to find people is to BE VISIBLE! Do this by using social media (Craig’s List, Facebook, etc.) and in using neon posters and tagging your car. Above all, be persistent, be hopeful, and DO NOT give up!
