Kakadu

Sunday, 6 October 2013 New Series

Filmed over 12 months, Kakadu is a life and death drama where man meets wild and nature calls the shots.

Here on the flood plains and ancient sculptured escarpments of Australia's largest terrestrial national park, danger and great beauty are often

the same. This is the World Heritage Listed site at its most magnificent and beguiling. But take care. Kakadu is wild. Deadly predators lie

beneath the billabong surface and creep through the rugged stone towers.

Kakadu goes behind the scenes of this natural universe. Through the rangers' eyes, and those of the scientists and traditional owners who

devote their lives to Kakadu, comes a deep insight into the elemental power of nature at dramatic extremes.

In Kakadu, people are included among all living things, just another species fighting to survive. Microscopic creatures, insects, plants,

aquatic life, flesh-seeking reptiles, birds and humans - all are part of the dance of life and death, each with a powerful part to play.

Ultimately Kakadu is a story of rebirth, renewal and change, of six seasons defined by the Bininj/Mungguy - the Aboriginal people of Kakadu -

unfolding as they have for millennia. Each new season produces unique drama and beauty, nothing ever predictable, nothing staying the same.

It's taken a year of intense filming to bring this four-part epic to life - months of dedication working in searing heat and monsoon storms,

deep in the heart of the living wilderness.

The result is a front row seat on a journey of monumental scale.

Serangoon Road

Sunday, 6 October 2013

During street riots Patricia (Joan Chen) is attacked and robbed on the way to meet a client, Mrs Lim, with photos of her apparently

philandering husband, James (Edmund Chen).

Fortunately, Patricia is helped by a Malay photographer, Hafiz (Osman Sulaiman), and taken to safety. Sam (Don Hany) is determined to catch the

culprit, but discovers that Mrs Lim has been dead for years and her husband James denies knowing anything about the matter.

Sam thinks the photographer might be able to help identify Patricia's assailant, and tracks him down to the office of a small Malay newspaper.

But just as Sam arrives, the place is raided and Hafiz is charged with bombing a store. Patricia gives him an alibi but Inspector Amran (Ario

Bayu) says that he has other evidence.

When Sam learns that MI6 was filming the riots, he steals the film to get a shot of Patricia's attacker and shows it to James Lim who still

insists he knows nothing. Sam then asks Claire (Maeve Dermody) for help. She’s, able to identify Lim's lover as Susannah Chong (Priscelia

Chan), the wife of a Malaysian politician.

James Lim finally confesses that he had his driver steal the photos after his lover Susannah Chong hired the agency because she was jealous of

him. It brings home to Sam the dangers of his affair with Claire.

Hafiz is cleared of the arson charges, and Patricia negotiates to keep Sam. But a woman is about to appear who holds a secret that will shake

Patricia's world to the core.

Yagan

Sunday, 6 October 2013

When Lieutenant-Governor James Stirling established Western Australia's Swan River colony (later the city of Perth) in 1829, times were tough.

Food was scarce and the initially good relations between British settlers and local Noongar people spiralled tragically out of control into a

conflict over land and resources.

Standing out during this period were the actions of a Noongar warrior named Yagan. Confused by the actions of the settlers and refusing to

submit to their strange British laws, Yagan fought back. Soon he was a wanted man.

Tricked into being captured, Yagan was on the cusp of execution when he was saved at the last minute by an enigmatic Scottish pastor named

Robert Lyon. Lyon was a firm advocate for the rights of the Noongar people during this clash of cultures. He saw Yagan as the ‘William

Wallace’ of his own people.

During exile to a remote island, Yagan and Lyon formed a friendship and mutual respect- unheard of at that time. Yagan passed on culture and

language to Lyon which allowed the settlers to finally understand the Noongar people. But a tragic set of circumstances quashed any chance of

reconciliation and Yagan eventually paid the ultimate price.

180 years later, Noongar elders - led by Ken Colbung and assisted by archaeologist Cresside Fforde - renewed the search for Yagan's skull.

They fought a long, drawn out battle to repatriate Yagan's lost skull to Noongar country. It was a victory both celebrated and mourned. CAST:

Country House Rescue: Colebrooke Park

Monday, 7 October 2013 New Series/Weekdays at 6pm

Country House Rescue returns and this time British entrepreneur Simon Davis is at the helm.

This series follows the fortunes of six stately British homes as Simon advises the home-owners how to diversify and raise revenue and in, doing

so, secure the future of these unique properties for generations to come.

Tonight, Simon visits Colebrooke Park, a neo-classical mansion built in 1820, in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.

Colebrooke Park has been home to Viscount and Viscountess Brookeborough for over 30 years. Having rescued the property from near ruin, Alan

and Janet have devoted their lives to maintaining the house, and have raised the funds they need by hosting exclusive shooting parties for a

very select market. But these consume all their time and energies and, with no children of their own, they want to start planning for the

future. They have called on Simon for his advice on creating a more sustainable business that will secure the estate's future.

Simon believes that Alan and Janet's salvation lies in exploiting the house and grounds to create a health and wellbeing business centred on a

spa in the former stables. But Alan and Janet have a strong emotional attachment to the property and seem reluctant to open it to the public

on a regular basis. In the course of his three visits Simon has to battle to overcome this prejudice and convince Alan to delegate and be less

controlling.

Audrey's Kitchen: Rabbit Stew With Mushrooms

Monday, 7 October 2013 New Series

When Audrey's Kitchen first appeared on ABC1 last year viewers were prompted to do one of two things - get out their saucepans and start

cooking, or phone the ABC switchboard to complain about ‘that appalling English woman’.

AUDREY'S KITCHEN is, of course, a spoof. A comic send-up from Working Dog Productions (The Hollowmen, Frontline) of all those cooking shows in

which some impossibly coiffed chef whips up wondrous feasts in five minutes from the contents of their crisper cabinet. The series is an

irreverent antidote to the crowded world of celebrity chefdom, a tongue-in-cheek homage to the cult of TV cooking.

Hosted by fictional celebrity chef Audrey Gordon (Heidi Arena who played Dawn in ABC1's The Librarians), each three-minute episode offers an

opportunity for Audrey to not only cook (there's plenty of that) but to also proffer her thoughts on what's wrong with the world today, be it

the dearth of good quality unsalted butter, or the taxi driver she encountered that morning. Or quite possibly both.

"I am so excited to be returning with another series of Audrey's Kitchen! It's got everything a good cooking show should have: fresh

ingredients, exciting recipes and me with a knife. What's more, no one gets voted off at the end of each episode (although we did have to sack

one of our production assistants after I caught her pilfering food between takes. Silly girl)." Audrey Gordon.

AUDREY'S KITCHEN is produced by Working Dog Productions. (10 x 3mins) Executive Producers: Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner, Michael Hirsh & Rob Sitch.

Tractor Monkeys: Family

Wednesday, 9 October 2013

Join host Merrick Watts and team captains Dave O'Neil and Monty Dimond as they go back through time to celebrate Australia at its best and best

forgotten, during the hilarious new season of the comedy quiz show Tractor Monkeys (9 x 30').

With Merrick at the helm, Dave and Monty will heroically lead some of Australia's favourite comedians and entertainers. Stepping up to

reminisce this season are Noeline Brown, Shane Jacobson, Glenn Robbins, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Marcia Hines, Hannah Gadsby, Denise Scott, Daryl

Braithwaite, Sammy J, Tom Ballard and many more.

New to this season are themed episodes. From fashion, love and family to technology, sport and leisure - and of course TV - Tractor Monkeys is

now much more about the personal stories that the archive gold inspires, as the teams tap into both shared experiences and their own surprising

anecdotes.

Guests: Denise Scott and Sammy J on Monty's team and Rob Carlton and Rosie Beaton on Dave's team.

You love them and you want to murder them: but what is the typical Aussie family? First up, we look at the ideal 'Madmen' housewives of the

60s, then cub reporter Kerry O'Brien keeps it real with 70s hippy families on a commune in Nimbin. We also revisit the now rarely seen Noeline

and Laurie from ‘Sylvania Waters’, Australia's first reality TV show.

In one of the most personal and candid episodes of the series, Denise Scott tells us the trials and tribulations of having a clown as a

husband. Sammy J shows us his hidden talent of sniffing strangers' armpits to see if they are related to Dave O'Neil. triple j's Rosie Beaton

tells us what it was like growing up above the family funeral home and Rob Carlton still hasn't recovered from having twins.

Jennifer Byrne Presents Tim Winton

Thursday, 10 October 2013

The last time Jennifer Byrne went to Western Australia to interview Tim Winton, it was 22 years ago and Winton was, at that time, one of the

country's most promising young writers. He was on the cusp of his first major commercial success with the release of his breakthrough novel,

Cloudstreet. Over the last two decades, Winton has solidified his position as an author of serious significance within the Australian cultural

landscape. On the eve of the release of his first novel in five years, Jennifer revisits Tim's native WA to chat with him once again.

Winton is a quintessentially Australian writer - not only does he draw much of his inspiration from our landscape he also thinks the Australian

accent is 'gorgeous' and our colloquialisms are 'poetic'. However, he is not without a critical eye for the country he so obviously loves,

claiming Australia is "anxious to bulldoze its doubts and bury its past".

In this wide ranging interview with this private and reclusive author, Winton talks about the new film adaptation of his short story

collection, The Turning, as well as his experience writing his latest novel Eyrie. Tim also opens up about how his life has changed, as well as

the ways in which it has stayed the same. His passion for environmental causes, his preoccupation with class and his love of children all shine

through.

On the eve of the publication of Eyrie, this interview is a ‘must see’.

Whitechapel

Saturday, 12 October 2013 New Series

Rupert Penry-Jones (DI Chandler), Phil Davis (DS Miles) and Steve Pemberton (historical researcher Ed Buchan) return in these atmospheric new

thrillers set in London's East End.

This six-part series sees the team confronted by twisted, gothic murders that reach right into their fears and superstitions. Someone is

killing suspected witches; flayed bodies suggest someone is more interested in the victim's skin than in their death; and the sewers of

Whitechapel threaten the team with an additional layer of horror.

While Chandler and his team try to solve these crimes, the station itself seems to pulse with unexplained phenomena - mysterious footsteps in

corridors, creeping mould and silty water. Could the station be haunted? And who or what is really behind the evil that surfaces in

Whitechapel?

In episode one, DI Chandler, DS Miles and the team investigate a bizarre murder as a man on the run is crushed by stones. As the killer's

macabre methods become clearer, Chandler is faced with a sinister 16th century precedent. But the team's progress is impeded as the victim's

links to 20th century espionage attract attention from the security services. Old scores are settled as dark forces are at play in

Whitechapel.
